Could you tell me whether the estimated cost for a bridge unit is correct?

Friday, February 4th, 2011
Q.

I was given an estimate foe a 4 unlt bridge but when I went for the permanents to be fitted, the technician had supplied a 3 unit bridge, saying it was a better look.I had to pay for a 4 unit bridge there and then before I left the surgery. When I questioned my dentist later about this,he said he did not know if the technician would make an adjustment on the price till his bill came to the practice. This seems wrong as my estimate was £690 per unit .Not an overall price for the bridge. Please advise!Thank you

One of my teeth is twisted, my dentist wants to remove it but i’m not sure if its worth it?

Tuesday, February 1st, 2011
Q.

My crown on tooth #19 needs to be replaced due to a large cavity under it. Tooth #20 is twisted by 90 degrees. My dentist wants to pull it and give me a bridge. The tooth doesn’t bother me and isn’t seen anyway; but my dentist says if I ignore it then it will eventually create other problems and may even end up breaking. Does this make since? I hate to have that work done if he is just being overly cautious.

Should I get a root canal redone or have the tooth extracted and bridge fitted?

Monday, January 31st, 2011
Q.

I have four lower front teeth that have to have the root canals redone after 17 years. I am leaning more on having them pulled and a bridge put in. What are your thoughts and are there any concerns I should have? Is this a good decision?

I am having a dilemma, whether to get implants or find a cheaper less drastic solution?

Monday, January 31st, 2011
Q.

I am about to embark on some
expensive orthodentistry but havnt
decided what or who yet.

My problem is this.

I have a full row of top teeth – crowned
bridged – and the odd one of my own.
They have served me well but now
i a 61 the gums have receded &
and the stumps inside the crowns
r rotted giving an ugly black margin
between gum and tooth on about
6 of the teeth.

Bottom row – many removed teeth
hidden by a prosthesis denture
which shows silver”’ claw’ when i
smile widely. Bottom solution i
believe is dental implants. BUT
question like answering now is:
Is there anything less drastic n
expensive than implants to hide
decay in the gap on top row?

I have a bridge of four teeth which i don’t like, I want to thave them changed but my dentist thinks it would be risky, what do you think?

Monday, January 31st, 2011
Q.

I have a bridge of four teeth on the side of my mouth, have had them for around ten years, I have never been quite happy with them as they do not match the bridge on the other side they are slightly longer! I have asked if there would be a possibility if I could have them changed, but my dentist says its too risky and I might end up having dentures, can you advice me, and what are the chances of having to have dentures, my gums and other teeth are healthy, thank you, Regards B.

I had lots of orthodontic work 7 years ago, however my teeth have moved back and are discoloured, how should I rectify this?

Friday, January 28th, 2011
Q.

Hi Dr Glaister,

From the age of 13-16 I had a lot of orthodonist work done. I am missing my adult Lacteral incisors on both sides so once my teeth were straightened I was fitted with 2 maryland bridges to fill the gaps. 7 years later and my teeth have all moved and are discoloured. My central Incisors have moved slightly (one forward/one backwards) which has caused my bridges to also move out of line. The bridges are also a lot darker than my natural teeth. I’d like to have them straightened, whitened and the bridges replaced. Can you please give me some suggestions to the best way to do this. Would I have some sort of brace fitted with the old bridges still in place or would I receive temporary ones? Which brace do you think would be the most efficent and quickest? Do you think it is a bad idea to whitened my teeth and then get my new bridges to match the colour as it will lead to possible unmatched colours in the future? I’m on quite a tight budget so could you please give me some sort of cost estimation for the work suitable?
