i had removable braces as a teenager

Sunday, October 19th, 2008
Q.
I had braces as a teenager – the fitted braces followed by removable ones. my teeth slipped back over the years and are now becoming more crossed over at the front. I have two crowns – one on either side (where the removable brace fitted – not sure if that weakened them causing me to require crowns) – could I get an invisalign brace or will this not work due to me having crowns. I also have a wisdom tooth on one side which is very close to the back – will this need to be removed? Or could I have one of my crowned tooth removed and allow my teeth space to straighten with that gap

I have a loose crown, the front top left tooth beside

Saturday, October 11th, 2008
Q.
I have a loose crown, the front top left tooth beside the eye tooth. It has been loose for about 2 years. My dentist kept saying it wasn’t that loose but on a recent visit decided it was and that it should be removed. She has tried to remove it twice and yesterday used what I think she calls a crown remover which is hammered onto the tooth. This, in fact, seems to have tightened it and she still wasn’t able to remove it. The X ray does not show any sign of a crack in the post or tooth but she fears the tooth could be split and that is why it is difficult to remove. She’d like to try again but I fear more banging with the crown remover may break the root if it is not yet broken. She took an impression as an interim measure in case it is broken and I’d need a denture as a temporary measure before an implant or bridge. Would it not be better simply to leave it to loosen on its own than cause more stress to the root in trying to remove it. I would really prefer to save the tooth if at all possible and feel I should have a second opinion. It now only wiggles marginally, since it seems to have tightened with her manipulation yesterday, and there is no pain. The surrounding gum appears to be healthy.

I have just had 4 crowns on my four front top teeth

Monday, October 6th, 2008
Q.
I have just had 4 crowns on my four front top teeth. This was because I had previosuly had root treatment on two of them and the teeth were getting worn away in between where you would normally floss. I had teeth whitening and opted for crowns. I only had these done last week but now have three small triangles inbetween the tops of the teeth where it looks as though the gum inbetween each teeth has been chopped off. As I left the dentist he said the gum would drop down and was like that just because the four temporary crowns (all in one block) had pushed the gums up. After a week they havn’t dropped – will they? If they won’t what can I do? They look far worse than my old teeth!

I have heard of crowns coming off but

Tuesday, September 30th, 2008
Q.
I have heard of crowns coming off, but I have had a crown for about 18 years and it broke at dinner tonight. Is this normal, to break? Also, is it going to cost as much as an original crown to replace? Anything I should ask my dentist? On average how much less is a replacement vs. the original? Thank you for your time, I appreciate it very much.

chould i have a crown veneer or a filling

Friday, September 26th, 2008
Q.
My 2 front teeth have been filled at the back -one more than the other. a filling came out recently and my dentist refilled . The teeth are slightly discoloured . Crowns have been recommended -1 as necessary and the other for obvious cosmetic reasons. My dentist has said that, because of the fillings, the teeth are thin and would not he would not recommend veneers? Opinion/advice please since crowns seem a drastic step Thank you

i have a loose cap that came off my tooth

Wednesday, September 24th, 2008
Q.
I have a few upper teeth that are capped. This was done several years ago. Have had no problem except recently one of the front caps became loose and eventually fell out. When I went to the dentist, she told me the cap was broke at the top. She could cement it back in but it wouldn’t last and that I should consider either a bridge or implant. My question is, can this cap be fixed? Isn’t there some way they can bond it or fix the broken area so I will not have to go through the expense of a bridge or implant? I am 74 years old and if it wasn’t that the tooth was in the front, I would forget about it, but I can’t. Could you please tell me if I have any alternatives here. I thank you for your time and hope to hear from you.
