I have been advised I am not suitable for Invisalign

Wednesday, November 12th, 2008
Q.
I have been advised I am not suitable for Invisalign or the 6 month smile treatment to treat an overbite. I do not consider metal braces for 2.5 years as an option. Are there any other treatments such as Invisalign that can be looked into? Also would it be an idea to have another consultation with another Invisalign or Clearstep partition?

I am 21 years old i have three gaps in the upper jaw

Tuesday, November 11th, 2008
Q.
Dear Expert, I am 21 years old. Since I was a child I had been unhappy about my teeth. I have gaps between them – 3 in the upper jaw and 5 in the lower jaw, all in the front. In addition to this, my teeth in the lower jaw are very small. My parents or dentists I had visited in the past were never concerned as my teeth were always very healthy, and I was also told that braces would not help as my teeth are either too small or moving them would cause more serious problems. After many years of ignoring the problem, I feel that I should no longer be afraid to smile widely and would like to do something about this. In addition to filling the gaps, I would like to whiten my teeth. Could you please let me know what I should start from, what kind of procedure may be involved and what are the potential (approximate) costs?

Tuesday, November 11th, 2008
Q.
Having had 4 metal based porcelain caps fitted to my four front bottom teeth can the 15year old bonding on my 2 upper big front teeth above the caps be replaced with new bonding. My dentist refuses to do this and states that they must be restored with all porcelain caps ie Lava. I hate to have good teeth filed down for caps. Help please. The original bonding was put on in the States. Thank you do much for your time. Sincerely

my dentist suggested that i start with invisalign

Thursday, November 6th, 2008
Q.
Hiya, my dentist has just suggested that i start with invisalign. at a cost of almost £3000. i’m 19 and currently unemployed so that is a huge cost to me. I have some sort of problem (which i will be seeing a doctor about asap) which means i cannot breath through my nose very well so i tend to breath through my mouth and have done as long as i can remember. i have been told that this is the reason for the dental problems i have. i have a narrow top jaw which caused 2 of my teeth (the ones either side of my 2 front teeth) to come through behind the front ones. i had orthodontic treatment beginning with an expandable retainer from age 10 (i was made fun of because i couldnt talk around it so i often took it out) after some time i then had fixed braces which for a while had a spring in the roof of my mouth in order to expand it a little more i think. after just under a year with those on (the elastic band kind) they were removed and i had lovely straight teeth…. for about 2 weeks, maybe a month before the two offending teeth began to move back again i had another chunky plastic/wire retainer which i did wear and my orthodontist reduced the time i had to wear it towards the end of my treatment (every other day… just nights etc) my teeth now are nowhere near as bad as they were originally, i just have a slight crossbite involving those two teeth, but i really wish they were straight again. i saw in one of your other answers about permenant retainers, like a wire stuck behind the teeth to prevent them moving, my cousin in america has one of those and i always thought i should have had that done too since my teeth had moved so drastically and i feared they’d be more likely to move back. i was never offered the option to have a permenant retainer else i surely would have gone for it. should i have been? i also wonder if the breathing problem may have had some impact on whether or not my teeth moved after treatment? is £3000 (i think it might have been £2800 but even so) a reasonable price for my treatment and is it worth doing or will my teeth just move again? i do hope you can offer some guidance, many thanks.

I really want to straighten a gap in my teeth

Wednesday, November 5th, 2008
Q.
I really want to straighten a gap in my teeth which has bothered me for years, I heard about invisalign from my dentist but he quoted me a price in the region of 4000 pounds which is not something I can afford. A clinic running a special offer have quoted less than half that but want me to pay up front. Is this a bit dodgey? Would I be better to save and go with someone who is charging the normal price rather than gamble on the cheaper option? This is still a massive amount of money for me.

Hi im 19 years old and have previously had orthodontic treatment

Tuesday, November 4th, 2008
Q.
Hi, im 19 years old, and have previously had orthodontic treatment. However, I have a couple of problems. Firstly, my front two teeth are very big compared to my other teeth and my mouth. Is there any way to fix this? Also, my smile arch is too narrow, so when I smile, you can hardly see the molars. Being only 19, I’m not able to pay the astronomical prices that I’ve seen from many cosmetic practices. Would you be able to advise me? Thank you
