Need extensive makeover to my teeth

Saturday, October 31st, 2009
Q.
I’m 22 and my teeth are awful! I’m embarassed to smile, laugh and often get told to ‘cheer up’ because of my regular closed mouth expression. My teeth are discoloured, sensitive, and crooked. This is due to lack of dental care when I was a child. I regularly use whitening products, and sensitive toothpastes, I visit the dentist but just seem to have filling upon filling. I’m so scared of one of my front teeth completely falling out. I honestly feel like I would be happier with false teeth, which is a bit of a daunting prospect at the age of 22. Being a student, I cant afford cosmetic dentisty and even the financial plas seem to want £100+ a month, which just isnt an option for me. I don’t seem to have a local dentistry school, and even ones far away seem to have full waiting lists. I’ve considered using a student loan to go abroad to have ‘cheap’ dentistry work done but hav been advised this could make things even worse. What should I do?

My 8yr old has a tooth condition how can it be treated?

Monday, September 14th, 2009
Q.
Dear Dr. Moore, My 8 year daughter has a rare tooth condition and I am looking for someone who has heard, seen, or treated a similar case. Her top front 4 teeth have come in as two large teeth. She is a beautiful, outgoing, young girl but is already getting teased by the other kids. Any suggestions?

Im 25 and i have overlapping teeth what can i do?

Thursday, September 3rd, 2009
Q.
Hello When I was 16 I wore a retainer to sort out my over bite and my front 2 top teeth which cross over (I was a thumb sucker as a child). My treatment was never finished. No, at 25yrs my main concern is my front two top teeth. One overlaps the other, the overlapping tooth get bashed quite a bit and the corner is slowly chipping/wearing away. Apparently I also push my tongue forward onto these two teeth every time I swallow (tongue thrusting) wish is slowly making it worse. I am looking to get my front teeth straightened but am not sure what sort of treatment this would involve and at what cost. Please could you advise on the best affordable solutions for me. I look forward to your reply Many Thanks,

Can u advice me on subsidized cosmetic treatment?

Monday, August 24th, 2009
Q.
Hi Julian i need some advice i haven’t been to a dentist since i was in my early teens i’m now 29, My teeth are really bad and have been since a kid and have affected my confidence greatly i’m also terrified of the dentist since i was given gas as a kid and took a bad reaction to it. I know i have to do something with my teeth as they are only going to get worse and i need my confidence back as it holds me back, my fear is if i need cosmetic treatment and the cost i wouldn’t be able to afford the treatment as my teeth are that bad. Is there any instances where treatment done subsidised i really want to avoid false teeth. Any advice on what to do would be great thanks.

Hello I wonder if you could help. I am extremely unhappy with my ‘fangs’ and would like to find out if there is something that could be done cheaply. They are very large and sharp and completely ruin my smile. This is seriously knocking my confidence. Please help! Thanks

Problem with my root canal treatment affecting my confidence and my lifestyle advice

Tuesday, April 21st, 2009
Q.
Following an accident about 18 months ago one of my front teeth was knocked out- this was able to be replaced by a doctor in A and E. I then had root canal treatment on the tooth by my dentist. Unfortunately the tooth was not replaced straight and is alot more forward than the one at the side of it and slightly overlaps. Since the accident my confidance has been significantly affected. I find I cover my mouth when I laugh or smile. Also I have recently noticed movement in my gum when I bite down on the tooth- im concerned the tooth will crack or fall out and so I tend to eat on one side of my mouth away from the effected tooth. Are there any solutions available to restore my confidance in my smile and with eating food again? Thank you.

I have bad teeth feel that a nice smile would greatly improve my quality of life

Saturday, March 28th, 2009
Q.
Hello, I am 21 years old, I am a student studying psychology than going on to med school, so clearly i am not going to be able afford private cosmetic work done for a very long time. I have such bad teeth, i avoid smiling. I can’t stand looking at my teeth, every time i brush my teeth i have to turn my back to the mirror. My teeth make me so depressed. When i was younger i used to smoke, i also use to have somewhat of an eating disorder, where i use to make my self sick, so my teeth bare the scars of this. Do you know if NHS dentists offer a payment plan? I’d ask my dentist all this, but as you can imagien NHS dentists are very rushed in thier appointments, so i cannot stress enough how depressed my teeth make me. I feel that a nice smile would greatly improve my quality of life, Thank you for your time. PS, if i sent you a pic, would you be able to suggest the best course of action. Thank you
