Hi, I am an eighteen year old student. I just got braces about a month ago. My teeth are straight. I had to get the braces because I have still have baby canine in my upper teeth. They want to bring down the adult tooth. I have to get a gold chain on, the Expose and bond procedure, in about three weeks. I am really nervous about the surgery and how long it will take for the adult tooth to come down after the exposure. The big problem that worries me is that my adult tooth is horizontal – lucky me. How long will this take? And really how long will it take for my braces to be off? I have straight teeth which is upsetting. I thought I got to be one of the lucky ones that never had to get them. And never thought I would need them because of my straight teeth. But now I get them for my university years. Im really struggling with just having braces for 1 month. I really don’t like them. I have no confidence anymore and its hard for me to smile. Everyone says its worth it in the end, but to me this whole process is disheartening and stressful. I just really want to know if it will ultimately take three years to pull down my horizontal canine tooth and get the braces off.

Thursday, January 13th, 2011 Hello, my daughter has a top front tooth which has gone grey after a fall. She is 4. She has seen our dentist and we’re being careful with her with regards to possible infection. We didn’t ask him, and we’re now wondering, is there anything that can be done to whiten the tooth or is this a bad idea, or even impossible at her age?
We are conscious of possible bullying/hurtful comments which would affect her personality as she is sensitive and already quite shy.
My wife and I are both teachers and know how children can be in school environments.
We would appreciate your comments.

Thursday, December 2nd, 2010Hi – my daughter is 8 and her lateral incisors (upper) have not grown back after her baby teeth fell out. My dentist said she is still young so they may grow through however will not x ray her. No one in either families have this problem although my two lat incisors were short in comparison to the others and i now have veneers. Do you think hers will grow through or…???

Tuesday, November 23rd, 2010Hi there. My 5 year old son is missing enamel off his 2 front baby teeth. His peers are starting to comment and I do not want him to be teased. Our nhs dentist says nothing can be done and they won’t remove which I understand but is there anything that can be done privately? Can they be painted with anything or treated in any other way to improve the colour. I do not want his confidence shaken at such a young age. I have looked at the pearl drops paint on veneer product but it shouldn’t be used under 7 and I couldn’t see a difference on my teeth so don’t think it will make a difference on his. I thank you in advance for any advice.

Tuesday, November 16th, 2010My 16yr daughter has been fitted a brace as she has missing adult teeth either side of her top middle teeth. we have been told that the best option is to have implants in the gaps and then bring in the rest of the teeth so that any gaps are at the back, but we are unsure whether this is the best option and we would like to know what are the other options if any. My daughter would prefer to have bridges as this would be less painful and give a quicker result but the orthodontist seems to not want to fit them. as we are paying privately for her treatment i think my daughters views should be taken into account. Are we entitled to have a second opinion and be referred to have the rest of the work completed under the nhs? can you advise.,

It has started causing her some mild discomfort, and she is not the sort of child to play with her teeth either. Should I take her to the dentist or just let nature continue taking it’s own course?,
