How Do I Get Rid Of The Yellowish Colour On My Teeth? Would My NHS Dentist Whiten Them?

June 2nd, 2014
Q.

Hi there Dr Hughes. I need your advice and help. I am 18 years old and have stained yellow teeth. My front tooth was a baby tooth and has been extracted  a few months ago and now you can see the tooth in the gum which is taking ages to come down. I was wondering how do I get rid of the yellowish colour on my teeth, I am a NHS patient. Would my dentist be able to whiten them? If so, how much would all of this cost? I hate smiling or even talking it’s just embarrassing. Hope you can help. Thank you for your time.

I Went Through A Period Of Grinding My Teeth. What Treatment Would You Recommend For Short, Stubby Teeth?

June 2nd, 2014
Q.

Hello Andrew. I am seeking a good composite bonding dentist in the London area.
I went through a period of teeth grinding. I have now stopped although I still use a night guard.
This has resulted in shorter and ground down teeth to the upper and bottom front teeth.
Can you please suggest how I locate a good dentist for this work and although I know they do not last as long as porcelain veneers, would this be a recommended treatment for short, stubby teeth? Would there be another treatment I could consider? Many thanks.

I Would Like To Get Implants With Two Silver Teeth. How Much Would This Cost?

May 30th, 2014
Q.

Hi Dr Hughes. I have a top and bottom plate. Can I get implants with two silver teeth and how much would it cost? I’m 28 and have had them for about five years, how long does it take for your bone to start to deteriorate? How long would the surgery take? How much would the payment plan be and how would it work? Can you please help me? I have a very insecurity about it because I’m so young. My dentures are uncomfortable and I really want to do it before my bone deteriorates, it has already been five years. Can you please help me some way somehow?

I Damaged My Teeth As A Child. I Am Set To Wear A Bonded Retainer But I Worry About Keeping It Clean. What Is Your Opinion On This?

May 30th, 2014
Q.

Hello Dr Moore. I have a six months smile brace on at the moment that I have been told will hopefully be removed in a months time. I am also having whitening and a couple of crowns, one a replacement on my front tooth the other to cover a dead tooth. I damaged my teeth as a child falling down stairs. I have been told that I will be given a permanent fixed wire retainer on the back of my teeth for life, but I am worried that not only will this affect my bite when I eat and I also worry about keeping it clean, what are your opinions on this? Thank you for your time.

I Had A Bridge Fitted For Cosmetic Reasons But It’s Changed My Gum-line. Is There Anything I Can Do?

May 30th, 2014
Q.

Hi Mark,

4 years ago I had 2 bridges fitted across my top front teeth for cosmetic reasons, partly to cover a discoloured tooth which had been bumped years before. When these were fitted, my gum line changed massively and looked terrible and I noticed my new tooth was discoloured like the previous one.

Now, 4 years later I am as self conscious of my new smile as I was of my old one and feel like I have paid £3000 for nothing. I have spoken to the dental practice but they have basically told me I have to live with it at the same time as admitting to me that they wouldn’t be happy using my smile as an advertisement for their cosmetic services.

What can I do if anything?

A Gap Between My Two Front Teeth Is My Main Worry. How Much Does Dental Bonding Cost And How Long Does It Take?

May 30th, 2014
Q.

Hey Dr Moore,  I hope you can help me. I have a few gaps between my teeth but my main worry is the one between my two front teeth about 2mm to 3mm wide. It’s only on my top jaw and I was wondering roughly how much would it cost me to get my teeth bonded and how long would it take? Do you know whether bonding is suitable for all cases? It’s something that has worried me for awhile and I’d really like to get this fixed as soon as possible so braces aren’t really in my thinking at the moment. Thank you for taking the time to listen to me.

I Seem To Have Tried Everything To Get Rid Of The Stains On My Teeth. What Can I Do To Get My Smile Whiter?

May 29th, 2014
Q.

Hello Dr Hughes. I really hope you can help me. My teeth are stained and no matter what I seem to do, they never get white and I want a perfectly white smile. What would you advise me to do? I tried various toothpastes with baking soda. I even tried using baking soda by itself, I used super smile, it didn’t work. I brush my teeth 2 times a day and brush them for a minimum of 2 minutes. Are there any treatments that could help me with this problem? Thank you for taking the time to listen to me.

I Had To Stop My Cosmetic Dental Work Halfway Through Due To Unseen Circumstances. Would I Qualify For NHS Crowns?

May 29th, 2014
Q.

Hello Andrew. I started cosmetic dental work around 18 months ago and had my front 6 teeth filed and temporary’s put on. Due to unforeseen financial circumstances I couldn’t afford to go ahead with the treatment and I still have these temporary’s on, almost two years later. I’m embarrassed to see the dentist as it’s been so long and my gum are pretty red also. Would I qualify for NHS crowns as I have an exemption card or would this still be seen as cosmetic? Thanks.

I Am 17 Years Old And I Am Tongue Tied. If I Have A Frenectomy Will There Be A Chance My Speech Will Get Worse?

May 29th, 2014
Q.

Hello Mark, I wonder if you can help me. I am 17 years old, my problem is not with teeth but with my tongue so please help me if possible.
I have Ankyloglossia – tongue tie and it creates a lot of problems while speaking. This is because the frenum limits the movement of my tongue. So I am considering undergoing a frenectomy.
Do you know of any cases where the speech has deteriorated or worsened after a frenectomy? That’s the only thing I am worried about. I don’t want my speech to be further worsened.
Thank you for your reply in advance.

My Teeth Are Awful At The Moment. Could You Give Me An Average Quote On The Cost Of Veneers Please?

May 29th, 2014
Q.

Hello Dr Moore. Could you tell me how much would it be for veneers for my upper and lower teeth. They are awful at the moment and I need your advice so please help? I’ve got no confidence what so ever I I’m wondering if I can pay for this work in instalments as I don’t have enough money to pay for this in one lump sum. Do you know of anywhere that offers a payment plan? Thank you for your time and I look forward to your reply.
