my mothers dentures are eroding her lower left molar region

Q. Dear Dr moore, My mother is edentulous and has a full set of dentures. She is 66 and for last two months she is the dentures are eroding her lower rLeft molar region. The dentures are about 5 years old. We got the dentures fixed by a dentist. But that didnot help. My queries are ; does she need restorative surgery, how frequently should the dentures be replaced and what type of dentures would be the best for her. Best Regards

A. Hi
The dentures will probably need either replacing or relining after 5 years or so. If the gum i ulcerating around the molar region I would get it checked out by your mother’s dentist. The denture may need a temporary reline before the new dentures are made to allow the gum to heal.
