My milk tooth was removed and never grew back.

Q. I am 19. I have a canine tooth missing – it never grew in after my milk tooth was removed. I have been told by many people that it would be fine and that I could just leave it as it is, so I did. I’m noticing that my teeth are beginning to shift into the gap, however, considering its been a number of years already since my milk tooth was removed, the other teeth has only shifted a little. What would be the worst thing that could happen and CAN i just leave it as it is?

A. You can leave it and the only problem would be an aesthetic problem provided you do not have chipping or breaking of your back teeth.  The canines often protect the back teeth from damage.

I actually have the same problem, but I think that my teeth shifted tiny bit more into the gap. I was long time ok with it, as my doctor told me that it is not a real health issue, but the older I am (currently 26) the more it bothers me. Is it still possible to do something about it and if so, what are the options and how long would the treatment usually last. Thank you very much.
