my denture are little large and i was wondering how long it takes the gums swelling to shrink

Q. I’ve had all my teeth removed for full dentures. The top denture seems to be a little large. Removing the teeth was done five weeks ago. When I smile it is all gum and teeth. I was wondering how long it takes the gums swelling to shrink to where the temporaries look all right. I was wondering if most peoples temporaries look this way or if it is possible they may have used the wrong size of impression mold. Also one side of my dentures are slightly lower then the other when I smile. The dentures seem to stay in my mouth all right. The gums are oversized. Is this normal? Thank you,

A. It is always difficult to make the first set of dentures with your teeth still present.  After about 6 weeks your dentist should be able adjust the dentures and improve the fit.  The next set you have made will fit much better.  The more you wear them and use them the better they will feel.

I like to ask you a question regarding the dentures i have just made new denture for my dad and very loose on him, when i ask the dentist a reason he said my dad had no bone around his gums, which i didnt understand when he took wax try in teeth they fixed good but when i got permanent dentures they totally loose.

Also i like to know since my dad very sensitive gum do you recommed the soft reliner or hard reliner please advice.
