My crowned front tooth is gray in colour Can i get them be re-done?

Q. I got my two top front teeth crowned in 2007. As time has gone by they are looking more and more gray. Around the gum lines are darker, but the teeth are gray as well. I’m scheduled to have them re-done, but I’m curious as to why they turned gray, and if it is probable it will happen again after I get them re-done? I don’t want to waste my money if it’s likely to be a similar situation. Thanks.

A.

The crowns will not have turned grey over time. It is more likely that you have porcelain bonded to metal crowns and that your gum has receeded exposing the metal and highlighting the metal underneath the crown itself.
The quality of crowns vary widely form dental practice to dental practice so i would advise asking to see a portfolio of work before proceeding with work.
