I would like to know if having braces fitted would alter my faceshape considerably?

Q. Lingual Braces. I have quite crooked bottom teeth. My uppers are straight, but as my teeth where overcrowded as a child and teeth upper extracted to allow room it lead to the lowers crowding. I always knew that a brace was needed but my dentist always said not to worry and I didnt really need one. I went for an Invisilign consultation this week. The Orthodontist didnt even look at my teeth close up. He just asked me to bite down etc while he sat at the other side of a desk. He told me invisilign would not work for me and I need metal braces. He also advised I need them for upper and lower teeth. I have a consultation with a Lingual orthodontist in a few weeks. I would like to know if having braces fitted would alter my faceshape considerably? (Im happy with it as it is). How long do you wear retainers for after treatment and are they invisible? And the possible cost? I know this can go up to £8500. I look forward to hearing back from you. Thanks

A. Your face shape may be altered  by moving your teeth as the teeth support the lips and cheeks.  Retainers are either worn for six months nightly or sometimes a permanent retainer wire is bonded at the back of the teeth to stop them moving.  They are not visible unless you have gaps between your teeth.  The4 cost varies and you will have to discuss this with your orthodontist
