I would like a set of dentures but my thumb sucking is causing problems. What are my options?

Q.
For many years I was the victim of domestic violence and my teeth are now the only reminder of that awful experience that I have now come through. I have very few teeth left and know I will have to have dentures. I am 54 years old and suck my thimb a childhood habit i never grew out of.
I went to a dentist many years ago and had a part denture made and every time they tried to fit it, it didnt fit properly, I was told by the dentist that this was because the shape of my mouth was changing all the time because I suck my thumb and there was nothing they could do. I am both embarrassed and ashamed of the way I look and can see no hope of ever being happy with myself.

I think you should try and find a second opinion from another dentist, maybe one who is very experienced in making dentures. There are lots of other options that could be discussed with you…were dental implants offered as a solution? Ask your friends if they have a good dentist they could recommend to you or by all means come and see us in London?
hope that helps
