I want your suggestion on wearing dentures

Q. I currently wear dentures but the lower was originally made with a bar on a few of my teeth; but then one side came out of the gum; so the dentist removed the other side; so I’ve been wearing the lower using the pad. Now, I did go to a dentist who made a new complete set; however, I can not wear them-the lower-the first time the front teeth was almost laid out flat; so I couldn’t bite, chew, talk or sing; so he had it redone & then it was straight up way back behind my top; so I can’t chew-they just sit in the container. What should I do? They were very expensive to not be worn. The dentist did offer to refund half ot the money but at that time I refused. Should I sue him because if I call or go by; there is usually no one there.

A. You should be aware that lower dentures often cause a problem for patients because ther is no plate to support them .  If you need more stability the best option is 2 or 3 implants in the lower jaw to support the lower denture- It is unlikely to be the fault of your dentist and as such does not deserve to be sued

I have real trouble wearing dentures and have avoided wearing them for a long time. I now wish to enquire about implants and was wondering about the cost. I currently only have deteriorated wisdom teeth only. Is it possible to fit implants for a full set of top and bottom teeth? I would appreciate and information that you could provide me on this. thanks in advance

what would it cost to have a full set of dentures fitted permanantly

June 2nd, 2011 at 08:47 PM
Nathanial Says :

Thanks for your question. The cost can vary widely from person to person depending on exactly what treatment is required. The cost can vary from practice to practice depending on the level of experience of the dentist performing the work. Have a look at the search for a dentist section of this site for a dentist close to you and arrange a consultation. Many practices offer complimentary implant consultations

hello i am looking into replacement options for my grandma’s teeth as she finds it very uncomfortable wearing dentures and they are causing quite a bit of irritation to her gums. I’ve been having a look around at the different options and wondered if you think implants for dentures would be a good idea for her. He don’t have all that much money and i guess it would be the cheapest option as she already has the dentures. What on average does it cost for this treatment and am i correct in thinking it is the cheapest implant option? thank you

August 31st, 2011 at 08:47 PM
Luis Says :

It really depends what treatment he needs. It can range from a full denture price approx £650 to a full set of implants priced around £14,000. The best thing to do is to arrange a consultation with a cosmetic dentist to get a better idea of costs and options.

I have recently suffered from severe periodontal disease and a large number of my teeth have fallen out. To be honest I am think of having them all out and it seems pointless just have a few stubby teeth left over! Anyone I just wanted your opinion upon the All On 4 treatment and whether you think it is better than dentures alone. Is is long lasting? I would really like a permanent options that doesn’t require adhesive all the time! thank you for reading this message and for any information you can impart.

September 7th, 2011 at 08:47 PM
Junior Says :

The All On 4 treatment is a great solution and far better than dentures alone. I would encourage you to consult with a dentist and start this treatment. The longer you wait the less bone there will be left to help support the implants and teeth.

Hi I went to the dentist for an implant denture to my upper jaw, I had a scan whivh revealed i would need to have a bone graft(autograft) in my upper gum, the dentist says this will be a three hour op not carried out by him, but at the hospital, have you any idea how much this will cost, and how long in hospital. and how long before I can eventually have the inplants, and if I don’t have it done will i not be able to wear any sort of denture again. with thanks

September 20th, 2011 at 08:47 PM
Branden Says :

Bone grafting of this extent is a very major treatment, all costs timescales and implications of the treatment (such as the final restoration and wearing a temporary denture) should be discussed before treatment preferably with a written plan. Go back to your dentist and ask him to sort this out for you before you start any treatment so you know what the plan is. thanks

Having lost 19 teeth either upper and lower jaws due to gum disease, my question is related to the fact that of this 19, 3 of them are in the front lower jaw and also having some bone loss, I was told by my dentist that the only option I’ve got is a partial denture, is there any other options I can look at or not. My dentist told me that the reason he will not persue the case is to to the fact that if the adjacent teeth start to be loose and they will have to be extracted then there the bridge will be pointless.

i am soon to have all of my teeth taken out! after suffering from gum disease and tooth decay. I will have to have my teeth replaced, but im not at all keen at the thought of dentures, as they just seem to move around a lot and require a load of fixatives. Could you give me any advice about what kind of replacement device would be the best for me, the most secure and stable etc thank you

October 21st, 2011 at 08:47 PM
Leon Says :

The most secure and stable solution would be replacement of your teeth with implants. Depending on your needs you could have 4 implants placed to hold and secure a denture. Or, by adding more implants you could have teeth that stay in and cannot be removed. Consult with your dentist to decide what option is best for you.

October 28th, 2011 at 08:47 PM

A bridge could be a solution and it should be much more comfortable than a denture. Costs are difficult to estimate so you should visit your dentist and ask them for a quote if you’re suitable

My mum has recently had problems with her front upper teeth dental implants. She has had them for 5 years now. They have become loose and she can only eat soft food as they slip when she is eating and sometimes when she is talking. Her dentist said the only option is to have them taken out and have dentures. Socially aswell I’m not enjoying going out especially to restaurants as I have to take the dentures out to eat. I’m extremely self concious. What other options are there and what is the cost? Many Thanks

November 28th, 2011 at 08:47 PM
Savion Says :

You could try to modify the dentures by making them smaller, this often helps but can make retention less. That’s where implants help, might you be able to consider implant supported dentures rather than full fixed teeth?

November 29th, 2011 at 08:47 PM

In my opinion mini implants are not a permanent solution as they tend to show higher failure rates than conventional implants. They are cheaper though, so another implant mini or otherwise would still be an option in most case

Yes dental implants might be an exellent solution for you. The first step is to arrange a consultation and a Ct scan to see if you have enough bone to place implants. There are many techniques available

I have had periodontal work done recently and in the process of getting top dentures with bottom to follow. Problem is my dentist wants to do bone grafts after he removes the teeth. I have talked to many people who have dentures, and don’t know anyone who needed bone grafts in order to get dentures. If your getting an implant, then possibly. It’s about $200 per tooth and it’s only a one minute procedure per tooth. That’s $2,000. extra that is not necessary. What is your opinion o this

Hi Yes in short you can change the colour of the filling. However they will always discolour over time. If the bonding was done because the teeth were loose this would suggest – splinting due to gum disease If your teeth were healthy bleaching before bonding would help-hope this is some information that you can use.
