I stopped wearing my retainer and now my teeth have shifted to their original position, what can I do about this?

Q.
Hi dr Hughes I wondered if you could help me with something? I had braces for about three years. When I got them off I was given a retainer to wear. i was told to wear it full time for a about six weeks and then only at night. However, I quit wearing it all together about six months ago and my teeth have shifted quite a bit. If I wear my retainer for a while will my teeth shift back into the way they should be? If my retainer won’t make any difference then what else can I do that isn’t too costly?
A.

Hi and thanks for the questions. To give you the answers i’d need to find out just how much the teeth have moved – if it’s significant then wearing your retainer is unlikely to make much impact. However if the movement has not been too great then it might help. My advice would be to come for a consultation to have this assessed properly before doing anything. Kind regards Mark
