I need braces for cosmetic dentistry for gappy teeth

Q. Hiya. I’m 23 years of age and have never worn braces – the dentist stated the only reason I would need them is for cosmetic reasons. I’m very very self-concious of my teeth but next year I am getting married and know my teeth will put a slight dampner on my day given the number of photographs that will be taken. Eek! The main reason being they are ‘gappy’. There is a gap of about 3mm between my two central incisors and about 2-3mm gap between my central incisors and lateral incisors and again the same between my lateral incisors and canine teeth (I’m presuming they’re the right names, I’ve just looked on the internet). My lateral incisors and canines are also slightly twisted with a bit of a sharp edge. I do have an overbite, and when I asked my dentist about a quick fix previously he said that it wouldn’t look great as I would have a ‘horse teeth’ mouth – they’d look too big, and wouldn’t last very long and would cost a lot. I had a check up a few days ago and was meant to ask my current dentist about what I could do however he speaks very little English and I don’t feel confident he would understand what I was asking and vice versa. I desperately don’t have the money to do this but would probably contemplate borrowing money. I’ve trawled the internet but I’m still none the clearer on where to go, or how to start the ball rolling! I’m living in West Yorkshire if you would have any recommendations?? Thanks very much in advance

Dear Dr Rob Tennet,

I was looking online at ways of soloving gappy teeth and found a blog on cosmeticdentistryguide.co.uk about this. I am really conscious about my top 6 front teeth being gappy and have found probably the best point of call is fixed braces.

Would you be able to tell me how much a set of fixed (train-track) braces for my upper mouth, would cost approximately. This would be of great help as I am planning to go to university so would need to sort out costing before.

Hope to hear back from you,

John

hi you need to find out what caused the movement initially- likely gum disease . then consider orthodontics to correct the problem once the cause is established and treated.

I have had braces for 2 years now but i still have a small gap in my upper left and a larger gap in my upper right. My orthodontist took two teeth out and my dentist said that there was no need, so i am frustrated that if they hadnt taken my teeth out i could have had braces off long ago. I am starting dance school in september and really dont want braces for that, because it limits what i can do for work. I want to know what can be done and if i can just be seen by a cosmetic dentist to ask for an opinion. what can be done ?

if the gaps are on the front four teeth, you possibly could look at having an Inman Aligner or Clearstep braces

It really depends on the size of the gaps, speak to a cosmetic dentist or orthodontist for more info.

Hiya, i want to get the invisalign treatment as i have an overbite and my front two teeth have a gap. I have a cap and just wanted to know really if i was able to get the treatment still, how long i would need the treatment for the roughish price. Thank you

Hi there! The cap should not be a problem but you still have to be assessed if you are a suitable candidate for the treatment and get a time estimate. Hope that helps.
