I have lost a canine baby tooth which is hurting my confidence

Q. I have recently lost a baby canine tooth ( the adult tooth remains unerrupted in my gum) and am finding wearing the temporary denture very uncomfortable. I have been told that a bridge is not possible as the tooth by the gap is fragile so need to explore other options. Would I be able to have an implant- what are the implications of the adult tooth still being there and approximately what cost ? This is having a real affect on my confidence so need to resolve it – any other suggestions would be gratefully received!

A. Many thanks for your enquiry. the loss of your baby tooth is usually not a problem because you could put a dental implant in the place of it and that would work a treat. however, as you still have the canine un erupted in the jaw bone this could be a problem dependent on the position of the tooth. The only way you may be able to place a dental implant in this area would be to first have a CT scan of this area which would give the dentist an exact position of the canine and then see if an implant could be placed in the area without affecting the tooth. the other option would be to have the canine exposed and extracted, let this area heal and then place an implant into the gap area. i would also advise to get an second opinion as to whether a bridge would be possible. hope all this is helpful.
