I have just had a dental implant on one of my front teeth

Q. Hi I have just had a dental implant on one of my front teeth aswell as other dental work to my teeth. I have only just finished my treatment in the last two months, and already I am experiencing a problem with my implant, it is loose, I went to my dentist who tells me the screw has worked loose and this is common in implants, and the only way to deal with it is either to wait until it works its way completely loose or drill through the back of the crown to access the screw. Is this the best way! I have just spent so much money both on the implant and the crown, won’t this weaken the crown. So at the moment I am having to put up with a loose tooth. Thank you in advance.

A. This is quite common. Often the crown is cemented with a soft cement so it can be removed if the problem occurs. If this is the case the corwn with loosen so it can be removed, the screw tightened and the crown re-cemented.

It might be worth waiting for a few weeks for this to happen unless you have more severe discomfort

regards

Andrew

I had a crown replaced a year ago, it it has already came off. Now I’m being told that an implant may be needed, due to cracks in the root of tooth. My original crown lasted more than 10 years, so I’m a little concerned about this new crown only lasting a year.
