Does teeth whitening weaken or damage your teeth?

Q.
Hello Doctor
Does teeth whitening weaken or damage your teeth in any way and would you recommend it for any age? I am 53 and am considering having four porcelain crowns at the front but I would like my teeth whitened first and then have the new crowns match them. I am concerned that I may be damaging my teeth by having them whitened. And as my teeth aren’t naturally white does the whitening fade and if so how often would I need to have the treatment?
Thank you for your time
A.
Hello
Teeth whitening is not generally considered to damage teeth in any way, as long as it is carried out professionally or under the advice and supervision of a dental professional. There can be certain conditions or situations in your mouth that would mean you should avoid whitening however.

Your best bet is to come for a consultation with a good cosmetic dentist, experienced in all these treatments, to ensure you get the best advice and results possible

Hope that helps?
