I am experiencing pain in the tooth next to the one that was root canaled, is this normal?

Tuesday, July 27th, 2010
Q.
Hi, i did a root canal on friday on an upper tooth that was damaged but had fillings done months ago. im traumatized after the treatment, felt shaky right after i walked out of the clinic. After the root canal treatment, i did feel good for awhile but on the saturday, i had swelling on my whole of right face, even my tonsil and neck..swelling got worst by the day. Doc only prescribed me with mefanamic acid for the pain (no antibiotic given). even my head hurts. i visited the doc again on monday (today), re-cleaning of the tooth was done. swelling is still there (this time antibiotic was given), when i got home, i realized that the tooth next to it felt some pain. is that normal? or do i have to remove that tooth (the tooth that was re-cleaned seems ok so far).. swelling didnt go down yet, i still look like i got punched on the face, pain is minimized but i am feeling feverish after taking the antibiotic..is that a bad or good thing?. very worried and in pain…='( Help…,

Would a 3 week gap between treatments cause a problem for me?

Thursday, July 8th, 2010
Q.
Dear Dr Tennet, Last time I had a problem with a tooth, I was not aware of the problem until I went on a plane journey and experienced pain shortly after take off. Today I have just started root canal treatment which may take a further two visits to the dentist. I am a little worried because I am due to fly to Australia and may not have completed the full course of treatment by the time I leave. Do you think , having started the treatment, that I am less likely to experience a similar experience during the flight? And, would a three week gap between treatments cause a problem. I may be worrying unnecessarily but would not like to have problems during the flight. The dentist is hoping to be able to clean the canal at my next visit in a week’s time and depending on it’s condition complete the work three days later which will be the day before I fly. Obviously, I could have the tooth removed but would prefer not to do so at this stage. Advice on my options if this happens would be appreciated. Your advice would be most welcome. Yours sincerely,
,

I have an infection in my root after root canal treatment, what are my options?

Friday, June 18th, 2010
Q.
I had a root canal 2 years ago after an injury, but the dentist did manage to remove all the root and it become infected, and it took two further attempts to remove the root. I changed dentist after this, as I didnt feel confident with this particular surgeon. I later had further infection and was treated with antibiotics, and my new dentists suggested I go back to my original dentist, which I wan’t happy to do. I have pain and sensitivity when I have hot or cold drinks and try and bite into things. I have had further antibiotics but nothing has helped. What are my options?,

The tooth that had the root canal treatment is now decaying, what treatment options are available to me?

Thursday, June 17th, 2010
Q.
I have a front tooth which was replanted 30 years ago following an accident. It has had root canal treatment but is now decaying and my NHS dentist is about to either recommend a crown (NHS) or implant (private treatment). I am currently pregnant to must wait for the xray. What is the protocol on getting a second opinion and exploring the possibility of an implant specialist doing the work rather than my existing NHS dentist? If I consult a private clinic what would be the cost of a consultation and necessary xrays etc – and could I ask my own dentist for copies of x-rays?,
