Im extremely nervous patient and i need several filling what is the cost of inlay and onlays?

Saturday, July 11th, 2009
Q.
Dear Dr Tennet, I am an extremely nervous patient and hence now require several fillings due to decay. Some of these fillings are apparently quite large and the dentist seems unsure if they require root canal work or not. I have since come across inlays and onlays are these available on the NHS or purley private? and if so either way what is the approximate costing? also I appreciate without seeing my teeth its difficult to judge but may they be a better option to fillings and would they last longer. My last root canal was very painful during and after. Best wishes

I had my brace removed and now i dont like wearing the bottom plate because of pain advice?

Saturday, July 11th, 2009
Q.
I feel like my plate is too big. I had my braces removed about 5 days ago and on that appointment, when my orthodontist was taking moulds for my plate, on the bottom one he said “your mouth is just a little too big for the small so I’ll give you one size up.” or something like that. Anyway, my lower inside, left gum is being pushed by the plastic bit on the plate and it is extremely painful and is almost drawing blood. I don’t like wearing the bottom plate and often can’t wear it because of the pain. What should i do?

I am seriously considering having Gum Contouring but I am worried about the removal of the gum line weakening my teeth and make them more vulnerable. Is this so? Are there any other dangers or side-effects with Gum contouring?

I had white filling in 5 teeth and now 4 are in pain. does it mean my dentist cant do white fillings

Saturday, July 11th, 2009
Q.
I had white fillings in 5 teeth recently (the first ones I have ever had done ie first time I went to a dentist). They were all molars, and were done in 3 seperate sessions. One was broken off, so the filling is close to a nerve and a liner was put in. All the teeth hurt after the fillings, and now, 3 months after the first 2 fillings, and a few weeks after the the last 4 out of the 5 teeth are hurting after cold or hot food/drinks, and also sometimes without any obvious reason. I only had some pain in ONE out of the 5 teeth before, now pain in 4! When I told my dentist he said the fillings will need to be replaced, and if that does not solve it they need a root canal! It just seems mad to possibly end up with a root canal on 3 teeth that never caused me a problem before I went to a dentist. Actually this has put me off ever going again. Does it mean my dentist can’t do white fillings very well, and if so would it be any use to have them redone by the same person? Would I have to pay again? And how long should I wait to see if the pain still settles by itself? Would it be any use to not eat any hot or cold things, ie could that help the teeth to settle, or will it make no difference..? Thanks

Hi i am having a problem with my dentist matching up my bridge shape and colour the last time it was cemented perm in my mouth making this a very painful situation the next time will be the 3rd time. I dont mind the returns to obtain the best results how ever i am concirned after my last visit i ended up with an ulcerated gum around the bridge, I had all my top crowns replaced tooth whitening on my lower teeth and have spent quite a lot of money already at the dentist. And on a previous visit after five hours between the dentist and hygenist became very ill and needed the paramedics out. I am getting reluctant about these visits.

Q.
Hi there, I’ve been in serious pain with a tooth for two days now. I went to the dentist today who said I would need root canal therapy or an extraction, but they cannot fit me in for eight days. Is it ok for me to continue taking painkillers every three hours for eight days?

I have a deep overbite and crowding on my lower teeth can i get it jaw surgery in NHS

Friday, June 26th, 2009
Q.
Hi I am 24 and I am wondering if you can offer me some advice. I have a deep overbite and crowding of my lower teeth. My dentist said it is routine orthondonics and shouldn’t cost more than £3000 or under. She referred me to Birmingham dental hospital and I had an appointment there and was told the problem is not severe enough to get treatment under nhs. He also assured me it wouldn’t be too costly for private treatment. I had a consultation today at a Birmingham clinic and was told I am looking at at least £4500 and that it is very complex, she wanted to move my top teeth back to fix my overbite which I thought was quite strange as my bottom jaw needs moving out. My jaw clicks when I speak and eat and I constantly aches as I cannot close my mouth properly, I cannot afford £4500 and can’t believe this was not picked up on when I was a teenager. Do you know of anywhere that will treat me on nhs and is £4500 really, realistic? I have heard of people receiving treatment on the nhs when jaw surgery is needed.
