How much will it cost to have a broken tooth extracted?

Friday, February 4th, 2011
Q.

I have just noticed that at some point today, the top back tooth on the left hand side of my mouth has broken. Because it’s so far back I can’t see it in the mirror, and the part that’s broken is on the side nearest my cheek. It feels like most of it’s gone, and I can feel my gum where the tooth used to be – is the best option just to get the rest of the tooth removed? If so, are you able to advise what NHS band this would come under? It doesn’t hurt at all, I only noticed when I moved my tongue along my teeth.

Thanks 🙂

I am looking at getting my veneers replaced but I have peridontal disease, is it worth it?

Tuesday, January 25th, 2011
Q.

I have periodontal disease which I have had treatment for, and visit the dental hygienist 3 times a year. I now maintain excellent daily oral hygiene. (My dentist did not tell me I had this disease, but when the dark pockets appeared I looked it up on the internet and asked him to make me a referral). I was a smoker at the time but he did mention that I should give it up because it causes bone loss but he clearly was economical with the truth. I was horrified. I lost 3 back teeth before diagnosis.
I have 6 veneers which were carried out by my previous dentist 20 years ago.. i still maintain them but of course I have periodontal pockets in between. I had the main treatment for the disease 5 years ago and have had no problems since. I am currently 54 years old and wondered whether it is worth the cost of replacing these given that perio. disease is chronic. I have been quoted £600 per tooth. Many thanks.

I had a veneer fitted by an NHS dentist, it has broken, should I go private to get it replaced?

Tuesday, January 25th, 2011
Q.

I had a veneer fitted by my NHS dentist in August last year, although it was a slightly more expensive one than an NHS 1, I went to a lab to be colour matched. While I was sleeping last night it broke a quite large bit off the tip. and I found the broken off bit in my mouth. I am about to contact my dentist but know I wont get an appointment for weeks. Would I be better to go to a cosmetic dentist and go privately. Is this a common thing to happen? Or would getting it done privately mean better quality? It is just one veneer on one of my front teeth as I broke it when I was younger and it had been built up with a composite for years that wasn’t I good match colour and shape wise. How long do you think I would need to wait for a private cosmetic dentist appointment?

My son has missing enamel, can I insure him for dental expenses?

Monday, January 24th, 2011
Q.

My son is aged 10.
He has suffered from missing enamel on most of his new teeth. The dentist looking after him suggests that this may have been due to antibiotics being taken by my wife prior to his birth. My question is knowing that he will require a lot of dental work post 16:
Is this classed as cosmetic work and can we issure for this to at least have a six year plan to cover all the projected expense?
He has always had a very healthy diet.
Kind Regards.

Is there an alternative to braces?

Friday, January 21st, 2011
Q.

Hello, I’m 18 and my dentist adviced me to put on braces on top and bottom. But in my top teeth I don’t have them too messed up, so I was wondering if I had an alternative to braces, like surgery or something like that.

Thanks.
