ive had root canal broken crowns and abscess

Thursday, August 14th, 2008
Q.
Hi There Rob, Please can you help me, I have had root canal done on a lower left molar 5 years ago and a crown was placed onto the root that was left – not very much as badly destroyed it fell out a few times in those years and we just glued it back into the socket, however when I got pregnant with my second daughter I developed an abcess around this molar and was able to take gentle anti-biotics till I had my daughter. The crown became loose a few days back and I told my dentist I wished to have an implant done as she could not recommend someone we agreed to have a denture fitted in the mean time and I would source a specialist dentist.I have had the root pulled on Thurs and she had to give me 3 injections as I could feel her trying to pull it out, she told the dental nurse that the root had broken but I presumed it was all out as she did not say that any root was left in. She fitted my denture and off I went. that evening when the numbness wore off I was in agony my jaw is swolen at the site where the tooth was extracted and my gum has a hard white lump on it almost like a sore I am not sure if this is root still in there or the abcess from before or a sore from the denture. I am unable to wear the denture as it is now too painful. I really want to get an implant and reading some peoples answers I see that a specialist in implants should have extracted my tooth I am really worried and dont know what to do. please can you advise. regards

dental implant or bridge for root resorption

Tuesday, August 12th, 2008
Q.
I had 6 front upper teeth crowned (#6-110. #6 WAS needed following root canal. The others 5 were cosmetic. Tooth #8 was fine on xrays at the time of crowning. 3 months later the xray showed circular shadow about 1/4 wau into the side of tooth. 1 month later it is now at 3/4 through tooth. I’ve been adviced this is autoimmune process with the body reabsorbing the tooth after crowning. They say extraction and inplant. This tooth was fine 3 months ago before the crown. What happened? Is there any other option? I’m sad I decided to have it crowned. Thank you.

Can we have a better obturator for the roof of the mouth

Tuesday, August 12th, 2008
Q.
My father-in-law recently had an operation for cancer, which involved removal of some of the roof of his mouth, as a result of which he now wears an obturator. Following radiotherapy, his obturator now fits so poorly that he is almost unable to eat or drink, as everything comes straight down his nose. It also makes his speech difficult to understand. He has gone from 12 stone down to about 9, and is still losing weight – to the extent that everyone involved in his care is concerned about him, but his reconstructive dentist is too busy to anything about it. Is it possible to have an obturator made privately? What would the likely cost be? How long would it take? It seems absurd to cure a man of cancer only to condemn him to starve to death! I look forward to hearing from you.

Friday, August 8th, 2008
Q.
My fiancee bit on his fork the wrong way, and now he feels like his one top tooth and his bottom tooth are scuffed or scratched when he runs his tongue over them. Can he buy something that will fix them, or polish them back to normal? Thanks so much!

I had root canal treatment around 15 yrs ago on my

Friday, July 18th, 2008
Q.
Hello, I had root canal treatment around 15 yrs ago on my front tooth and had a veneer fitted. In the past 3 or 4 years I have had a number of veneers and they either fall off or crack. I had one fitted 2 weeks ago and within days 2 large cracks appeared. My dentist is on holiday, so I consulted another dentist who advised that my current veneer is too big, too thick and the wrong colour. He suspects my dentist has removed too much enamel from the tooth and this is why I am having all the problems as the veneer is unable to bond with the tooth. He now suggests a crown. I have been avoiding this as I am concerned that it will look false and if my gums receed that the crown will look bad. Is there any alternative or can a veneer be fitted if too much enamel is removed? Thanks

My saliva gland was damaged after radiotherapy and my teeth are disintegrating

Wednesday, July 9th, 2008
Q.
My saliva gland was damaged during a course of radiotherapy for thyroid cancer, and my teeth have been severely damaged and are literally disintegrating, can you recommend a treatment centre clinic that may be able to help, unfortunately i am on a low income due to ill health but I would consider private treatment if I could be allowed to spread the cost of payment. I am at the moment a virtual recluse because I cannot face going out of the house, I have no social life and it has become really difficult because i have three school age children and I am unable to attend their school activity\’s, my parents have advised me to contact you because I have no self confidence and i really need help, yours faithfully,

My front teeth are short due to grinding and biting my nail

Wednesday, July 9th, 2008
Q.
My two bottom front teeth are very short, I think due to a habit of gritting my teeth (which I still do) and from biting my nails when I was younger. They are not unsightly and I do not have any problems with them but I wonder if they should be protected to prevent decay?
