My saliva gland was damaged after radiotherapy and my teeth are disintegrating

Q. My saliva gland was damaged during a course of radiotherapy for thyroid cancer, and my teeth have been severely damaged and are literally disintegrating, can you recommend a treatment centre clinic that may be able to help, unfortunately i am on a low income due to ill health but I would consider private treatment if I could be allowed to spread the cost of payment. I am at the moment a virtual recluse because I cannot face going out of the house, I have no social life and it has become really difficult because i have three school age children and I am unable to attend their school activity\’s, my parents have advised me to contact you because I have no self confidence and i really need help, yours faithfully,

A. Lack of saliva is a real problem as the protective parts contained in saliva have a huge role in protecting your teeth. You probably also have some damage to the bone of your jaw which may make implants impossible. I wish I could waive a magic wand and give you a simple solution to your problem but unfortunately I cannot as there are many factors that need to be taken into account.

The first thing would be for you to have a full assessment to see which teeth are savable and which are not. Once this is decided some form of treatment can be determined and the cots for such a treatment given. many practices offer finance packages to allow you to stagger your payments monthly. I would urge you to seek a consultation form a dentist as soon as possible as your tooth problems are obviously seriously affecting the quality of your life.

Kindest regards
