Can you help my husband who has a severe gagging reflex when dentists touch the back of his mouth?

Monday, March 7th, 2011
Q.

My husband has a condition which when he has visited the dentist in the past he starts gagging when anything is put near the back of his mouth, as a result of this he has not been to the dentist and his teeth are crumbling and deteriorating to the point that he is in pain and struggling to eat. He would be quite happy to have the remaining teeth taken out and have false teeth, but he is fearful that although he explains the condition to dentists, they immediately start poking about in his mouth making him gag.

I have a tooth ache, could I have something wrong with my spleen?

Friday, March 4th, 2011
Q.

I have a toothache in my bottom molar, no 6 on my left. I assumend something was rotten and rushed off to the dentist. He checked it out carefully, and found nothing wrong. He X-rayed the tooth, the root from both sides, and said there was nothing wrong. He found a lot of plaque on the inside of my bottom teeth and especially on the sore one. He said he thought that the tooth was reacting supsiciously to the plaque. We had it removed by th oral hygienist. Now the plaque is gone, and the tooth is still sore. It is sensitive to pressure, hot and cold liquids. It is not excruciating, and it doesn’t seem to get worse. It just stays like that. I’ts been more than a month.

A friend said that one’s teeth are linked to certain organs, and apparently, that tooth is linked to the spleen or the stomach – she said it is on the same “meridian”, so if there is nothing wrong with the tooth, it might be that there is something wrong with the spleen. I would appreciate your comments on this, or how to proceed from here.

If the dentist didn’t find anything wrong, and I paid through my neck for the appointment, I can’t imagine going back. What more can he do than all the Xrays etc.?

Can the position of my jaw be causing my speech difficulties?

Thursday, March 3rd, 2011
Q.

Hi, I’m 15 and over the last year or two I’ve developed a speech problem (trouble pronouncing s/sh sounds), I’m pretty sure that my teeth are causing it but I’m not sure how exactly. I’ve got quite a large overbite (1cm) but I think it’s my bottom teeth that are causing the problem, they’ve started moving forward to meet the top teeth and it’s really causing me problems, I’ve been to speak to people about this and they’ve said that my bottom jaw is further back than my top jaw, but I can’t have surgury done to correct this until I’m 17. I guess my question is, can the problem i’ve described cause speech issues or could something else be causing it?
