My crowns look grey in day light what are my option please help

Tuesday, August 18th, 2009
Q.
I am 35 years old and about ten years ago a dentist capped my two front teeth a very dirty off white colour on the NHS. I was not aware of the procedure and thought he was going to put veneers over them. Sorry to sound so dumb but was not very informed. A few years ago I had my teeth whitened and the two caps stayed much the same. Outside in the daylight my top row of teeth look grey and dirty and as a women of 35 you can imagine the impact on my confidence. I have been told by several cosmetic dentists that they do not want to remove the caps and replace them and if I get veneers on the teeth left and right to the two front ones I am still left with two discoloured teeth. Please help.

What is your opinion on using botox to combat bruxism

Tuesday, August 18th, 2009
Q.
Hi, I have quite a bad bruxism problem and have done for about 10 years. I have a mouthguard (tanner appliance), but recently my grinding seems to have got worse – as soon as I have my appliance adjusted the next morning there are already deep grooves in it. My teeth are being visibly worn down on one side, are feeling fragile and are starting to move. I also feel that my gums are receeding. I also have facial pain, my jaw sounds like it’s crackling when I move it from side to side and my facial muscles are painful and sometimes swollen. I recently tried a muscle relaxant prescribed by my dentist but without success. I have heard about botox and wondered what your opinion was on its use to combat bruxism? Is it recommended generally and is it safe? Many thanks in advance.

What material technology you suggest for my front teeth

Monday, August 17th, 2009
Q.
Dear Dr Justin I have read a couple of your answers regarding crowns, which is my main concern (at age 27). My dentist has quoted me on work that needs to be done [5 crowns(UL1,2,5 & UR1,2), 2 veneers(UR3,UL3), 3 composites(UL4 & UR4,5)] plus hygiene, whitening, etc and I want to make sure I get it done properly as it’s mostly front teeth (mostly cosmetic work) and I don’t want to spend money on something that isn’t going to last or isn’t done so that I walk out happy. What would you suggest is the material/technology that is best for front teeth and that will last long but look natural? Also, what would you suggest is a rough estimate costing for this(without seeing my teeth I understand it can’t be very accurate)? I currently have a crown on UR2 on a post which is almost 10 years old which needs to be replaced – as it stands out agains the rest of the teeth(colour). UL5 is also a crown that the dentist wants to replace (I think it’s more to match colour, not sure if this is needed, although it is a little loose but has never bugged me). What type of follow up treatment should I expect to have after this amount of work, as I want to be prepared for what needs to be done in the future. Sorry, it’s a long list of questions and I hope it’s not too confusing. I look forward to hearing from you. Kind Regards

What is price range for inman Aligner or 6 month smiles

Monday, August 17th, 2009
Q.
Hello I am 24 years of age and sick of teeth!!! Sounds bad I know… The main problem is my two front teeth that stick out causing a moderate to severe overbite. The lateral incisors also stick out but only slightly. Overall they dont look incredibly bad (as friends and family say) but I would prefer straight teeth as I am extremely self concious. I am looking into orthodontic treatment and in particular Inman Aligners or 6 -Month smiles but I’m unsure which will achieve better results or if they’ll both equally effective. Also, what are the price ranges for both options? Thanks!!!

If I went through any cosmetic dentistry would I be put to sleep?

Sunday, August 16th, 2009
Q.
Hiya, I’m 19 yrs old and i have the worst teeth. They’re wonky and i have (what feels like) a huge gap. my teeth are yellow and if i’m honest, i don’t brush them as much as I should do. I have a massive phobia of dentists, i haven’t been in about 6 years. the last time i had a filling i had to be put to sleep. I work in a physicatric hospital and the paitnets all pick out my teeth which is quiet hurtful. i was wondering, would veneers be the answer? and if i went through with any cosmetic dentistry, would i be able to be put to sleep? thanks
