Should I ve to pay again to get my crown redone?

Thursday, October 22nd, 2009
Q.
About 6 Months ago I had a root canal and crown done on one of my teeth, via a private practise, this was paid by a loan arranged by the dental centre (interest free). Last Tuesday I went to get a check up and clean completed and talked about a weird smell and taste coming from that tooth, the dentist took a few xrays and said all teeth are looking really good, and finished the clean and booked me in for next checkup 6 months time, On the saturday whilst flossing, my crown fell out and it didn’t smell to great (blackness around where crown was). I’ve made a booking to see the dentist on weds this week. So the question is where do I stand, since I paid nearly £850 last time, and it has last only about 6 months (cleaned twice a day and mouth washed), and I can’t afford to be paying that out again and again, btw I do have one of their practice plans (under £10 a Month)

Will the gold crown fitted will stop the tooth to flex?

Thursday, October 22nd, 2009
Q.
I have a fractured back tooth. My dentist finds that the nerve is not infected and I agree because it is not sensitive to hot and cold and if the tooth isn’t touched it feels okay. However, my concern is that the tooth is sensitive when under pressure and I presume this is because any pressure allows movement, however small, of the fracture. At the moment I have a temporary crown in place, awaiting a permanent fitting. Would it be expected that when the gold crown is fitted that will stop the ability of the tooth to flex. Can anything be done underneath the crown to gain stability? Many thanks.

Should I have to repeat the root canal treatment?

Thursday, October 22nd, 2009
Q.
I had a root canal done on my upper back tooth 4 years ago and recently it has begun to hurt when i bite on it or tap the tooth. Does this mean i will have to have the procedure repeated or will antibiotics get rid of the pain? I had a check up approx 4 weeks ago and an x-ray and nothing adverse was shown. Thanks

I had cap tooth fitted which is loose now plz help me with this

Thursday, October 22nd, 2009
Q.
Dear Dr Caplan, Could you help…. I had a bad tooth removed by my nhs dentist, the option for me was to have a cap tooth fitted and glued to the tooth next to it,,After fitting th tooth felt too big and I was told this was a normal feeling even though it also loooked too big, after only two weeks the tooth became loose and fell out, so I went to another dentist, the tooth was altered and refitted again by bonding mixture,, I was told again that the tooth would stay in for years.. only a few days later the tooth is again loose and I cannot eat antyhing on that side of my mouth in fear of it falling out again. Could you advise what I should do next Kind regards

Is its true that I need a retainer at night if I wear metal braces?

Thursday, October 22nd, 2009
Q.
Hello. I am a 33 year old woman who would like to straighten 2 teeth at the top front of my mouth. From ages 13-18 I wore braces which sorted out most of my teeth but my orthodontist would not continue my treatment when I left school (even though I was going to university). I am still very self conscious about my smile, even at this age! I have longed for straight teeth, but having recently visited another orthodontist, she advised that i would need to wear metal braces for a year and would need a retainer at night for the rest of my life! This obviously put me off. Is this true?

What is the price range for implant?

Thursday, October 22nd, 2009
Q.
Dr. Caplan, I saw an endodontist today for a problem with a crown that I had placed in 2004. There was a root canal done on this tooth(which is the 3rd tooth from the front tooth) and then the crown was placed. But I have had a lot of trouble with the crown—has come off several times and now for the second time in 3 mo, I have decay built up under it. I am on antibiotic now and the specialist I saw today recommends that I have this tooth extracted and have an implant for this tooth. It was a baby tooth(the permanent tooth came in behind it and I had it pulled years ago). I have just a couple of questions: What is the price range of an implant? Should I have my dentist—whom I trust do the procedure or is it recommended to go to an oral surgeon? Thank you!
