Will fizzy drinks erode enamel and effect the Whitening process?

Tuesday, August 25th, 2009
Q.
I have been given a kit called ‘day white excel 3’ from my dentist in Australia. I used the kit last week for 9 days straight and was meant to leave it on for half an hour, but sometimes left it for over an hour. I had very sensitive teeth afterwards and felt that diet coke or anything acidic afterwards was attacking my teeth. It looks like some enamel may have been eroded the root s of some of my teeth, is this possible or could the whitening highlight a problem that may already be there? In addition do fizzy drinks and sparkling water erode the enamel on teeth over time? Thanks in advance.

Would replacing the crowns with dentures reduce the pain?

Monday, August 24th, 2009
Q.
Please could you give me some advice. I started having pain in my left cheek 3 months ago, the pain then radiated in my top left molar and across to my 3 front (top) crowns, then it went into the corner of my eye down the back of my head in my neck and in my left ear and around my jaw. I had the molar taken out then a tooth next to the 3 front top crowns towards left side, and then a wisdom tooth taken out top right hand side. This was all in the space of a week. The pain after the extractions hasn’t changed. I was told by one dentist that I have grinded my teeth quite severly. I was then diagnosed as having TMJ by a prof who to be fair has been really good. She told me that when I talk I push my chin forwards and said my bite isn’t bad but not great. I think this is because my 3 front crowns don’t meet my bottom teeth anymore and they feel really uncomfortable, they haven’t done for a while. I have been given a splint only a week ago which i know takes time. The pain is still the same it seems to becoming from My 3 front crowns (had them in for 12 Years)had lots of problems with them in the past had a root canal etc, and for a while now the crowns have been petruding forwards and the pressure I feel is horrible I feel like I just want to rip them out. The pain then radiates in all my teeth. I know this is quite a lengthy question but I am reaaly tired of being in pain as it wakes me from my sleep I also find myself having to constantly bite down all the time especially in my sleep. I really need to get sorted as I hate my 3 young children and husband seeing me in pain all the time. I was really thinking of having the 3 crowns removed and replacing with dentures would this be the right move?. Any advice would be much appreciated. Thank you

Will my gums get back to normal after taking the brace off?

Monday, August 24th, 2009
Q.
Hi, Im 14 and have braces. Im very worried about the size of my gums. I have had my braces for a year and 8 months. My teeth are fine but I have very bulbus gums. They are progressing under my wire and are puffy. But they are normal colored. My orthodontists have told me to to brush in circles against the gums (from the top and bottom) and up into them. In the past I have been able to make them go down a little bit, but then they end up flaring up again. I have been trying again recently and Im not having any luck this time. Im worried this is permanent. Im also worried I’ll have to have surgery on my gums, which I dont want. Will my gums go down when my braces come off or not? Thanks

Can u advice me on subsidized cosmetic treatment?

Monday, August 24th, 2009
Q.
Hi Julian i need some advice i haven’t been to a dentist since i was in my early teens i’m now 29, My teeth are really bad and have been since a kid and have affected my confidence greatly i’m also terrified of the dentist since i was given gas as a kid and took a bad reaction to it. I know i have to do something with my teeth as they are only going to get worse and i need my confidence back as it holds me back, my fear is if i need cosmetic treatment and the cost i wouldn’t be able to afford the treatment as my teeth are that bad. Is there any instances where treatment done subsidised i really want to avoid false teeth. Any advice on what to do would be great thanks.
