I Had Braces As A Teenager, But Now My Teeth Are Misaligned Again. How Much Will I Be Looking At To Fix Them?

Monday, October 21st, 2013
Q.

Hi there Dr Hughes,
I had braces as a teenager but now aged Twenty-One, my two front teeth are misaligned again. My retainer no longer fits properly so that’s no use. Is there anything that can be done to straighten just the front two? How much would I be looking to pay roughly? They are not dramatically crooked but it bugs me. One of them is just slightly behind the other, so maybe only one of them has moved. The change would not be too dramatic but I would feel better. The rest of my teeth are reasonably straight.
Thanks, I hope you can help as I’m not sure how to go about it.

I Had Implants Done Abroad, And I Need The Crowns My Dentist Sent By Courier To Be Fitted In The UK. How Would This Be Done?

Thursday, October 17th, 2013
Q.

Hello, Dr Shaffie. I already have two dental implants done abroad. The crowns had to be replaced because they were not firm, my dentist took new teeth impressions and had new crowns made, but unfortunately they were not ready when I left for my studies in the UK. My dentist has sent them to me by courier. I would like to find out if I can have them fitted here in the UK? I am currently studying in Cardiff. How much would it cost to fit them? Would a dentist be willing to take on a patient just to fit already prepared crowns? You would really be helping me out if you could offer any advice. Thanks.

I Have Confidence Issues As I Struggle With My Dentures. Do You Know If The NHS Will Provide Me With A Fixed Brace?

Thursday, October 17th, 2013
Q.

I know you may have covered this before but I need to find out. I had a total clearance a while ago and I am now on my second set of full dentures. It is impossible for me to eat any real food. If it’s soft, sloppy and tasteless then that is about all I can manage without them falling out. I have used dental paste, and it’s still no good. It is making me ill. My diet is poor, my self esteem is suffering and I cannot face being in social circles because my teeth just wont stay still. I live alone and am becoming more and more isolated which is leading to serious depression, I have now been advised to consider medication by my doctor

is it possible to have a fixed bridge on the NHS? I understand that this will wipe out all of the issues I have mentioned.

Please advise me.

I Have Recently Bought A Home Teeth Whitening Kit, And Would Like To Know Which Foods To Avoid?

Wednesday, October 16th, 2013
Q.

Hi,
I have recently bought and had fitted a home teeth whitening kit from my dentist following fixed braces being removed.
I have started a 2 week process but I am really concerned about what I can and cannot eat, I am trying to avoid drinking tea but have been given various different recommendations by friends, etc. Can you please tell me if I should only eat white foods ie, pasta, rice, bread or if I can eat most foods but avoid tea/coffee/curry – can I eat meat or should I just stick to fish or chicken?
A detailed list of what to avoid would be really useful. I am drinking hot water in place of tea and am experiencing a tiny bit of sensitivity, I have only started 1 application of 6% strength so far. Kind regards.

Hi, I Have A Slight Overbite And I’m Looking Into Getting It Rectified. Can I Send You Photos So You Can Assess Which Treatment Options Are Viable?

Wednesday, October 16th, 2013
Q.

Hello Mark, I have a slight under-bite and was looking in to getting it rectified. I recently visited two orthdontists, both of whom thought that though the surgery was an option, a braces program of 18 months would correct it. Just to cover all angles, can veneers give the appearance of an under-bite correction? From internet browsing it seems some say yes , and others are saying no! I’ve got some pictures I can send to you – I know a closer examination would be needed but I’m just curious at this stage of what kind of treatment options are available to me! Many thanks, it would be great to hear your feedback regarding this.

Good Morning, I Am Sixty-Two And In Good Health. I Want To Know If Cosmetic Surgery Has Advanced Enough For Bone And Implant Surgery To Be Safe At My Age?

Monday, October 14th, 2013
Q.

Good Morning,

I am a 62 year old male in very good health and when I was 12 years old was involved in an accident where I lost my four upper front teeth. Over the years my upper teeth have suffered and I am losing them gradually. My question therefore is this: Has cosmetic dentistry advanced enough that I could have bone implant and implant surgery at my age and would there be any health risk in doing so?

Many thanks.

I Would Like To Know How Much It Costs For Bonding And Gum Reshaping?

Friday, October 11th, 2013
Q.

Hi, Dr Hughes. I am just querying a price for some work I want done to my teeth? Basically I would like the two teeth next to the front teeth made the same length as the first two, using bonding. Then on my right side I would like about 2cm in length of gum reshaping to heighten the gum line to match the other side.
If that makes any sense? Please can you give me a round about price that I can expect to pay with this type of treatment.
Kind regards and thank you for your response.

I Currently Have A NHS Denture Which Is Unbearable, How Much Does An Upper Implant Denture Cost?

Thursday, October 10th, 2013
Q.

Hi, hello. How much would you estimate an upper implant denture to cost? I am only a 43 female and I have had to rely on a full NHS denture for a few years which I cannot bear any longer. My confidence is at an all time low and thought a denture implant may be the answer to my problems. I am in good health but lost my teeth after pregnancy and I cannot carry on with my current dentures. Also can you get a lower implant denture. When I got my last set of dentures you could see that teeth aren’t sitting straight and dentist has you in and out of chair in minutes, which really isn’t good enough.

I Want To Know If My Specific Problem Can Be Solved With Six Month Smiles Treatment?

Wednesday, October 9th, 2013
Q.

Hello Dr Hughes, My dentist recently told me I have a “relatively mild malocclusion involving a class 2 division, 1 incisor relationship with a 6mm overjet and a 2mm midline diastema in the upper arch”.   I was wondering if I would be able to get jaw surgery for the overjet or would braces alone fix that problem. Also would 6 month smiles fix it or do you think having braces on for about a year or 2 will be better. My dentist has not said anything yet about it so I want a second opinion. Thanks.
