I Had An Accident and A Tooth Had Been Root Filled. Now It’s Discoloured Is It Best To Have Internal Bleaching Or A Veneer?

Thursday, March 13th, 2014
Q.

Hi Mark, I hope you can help me. Following an accident I had, my front tooth had to be root filled and this is now slightly discoloured. Would this type of procedure work? My dentist is currently trying to bleach the inside as bleaching outside did not work. He is reluctant to put in a post bridge. Would an ordinary veneer be better or would that make the tooth protrude against the other front tooth. I fell on my front teeth which dislodged 7 of them. Thank you.

I’ve Moved House And Lost My Retainer. Now My Teeth Have Moved. What Will I Have To Do To Get My Smile Back?

Thursday, March 13th, 2014
Q.

Hello,

I want to have a retainer brace fitted as my bottom teeth have moved a lot. I did have a bottom retainer before but have lost it due to moving house. I was wondering how much the whole procedure is and how long would I have to pay? Also how long would I have to come for check-ups and how occasionally as I have to work around my job. It is starting to get me down now as I am in a lot of pain through where the teeth have moved. I just want my smile back!

I’ve Had A Crown Fitted Which Seems To Be Affected By My Bite. I’m Concerned I’ll Do Further Damage. Is This Likely?

Wednesday, March 12th, 2014
Q.

Hello Mark, I hope you can help as I have an issue that has me a bit worried. I have just had a crown fitted on my side tooth (After a root canal) but it seems a bit “long” and it’s always the first thing I “hit” whenever I bite down on anything. I am concerned that I will do further damage to it and that it won’t last as long as it should do with my bite affecting it’s function. Is this normal in your experience? What would you advise me to do about this? Could you tell me if it is likely to be under guarantee? Any information you can provide would be of great help to me. Thank you for your time.

Wednesday, March 12th, 2014
Q.

Hi Dr Hughes, I have overcrowded teeth and planning to go for a “six months smiles” treatment and I’m looking for a company that can provides insurance cover for this cosmetic treatment. I did some search and called some well known companies, but none of them provide insurance. So I was wondering as an expert, could you advise me is there any companies providing cosmetic insurance cover in the UK.

Thank you for taking the time to respond.

Tuesday, March 11th, 2014
Q.

Hi Mark. I hope you can help. Please can you recommend where is the best place to buy gel refills for teeth whitening. I had this done at my old dentist and I still have the trays but I have moved home now and my old dentist is not responding. I would like to purchase the refills but there seems so much choice and I don’t want to buy the wrong thing. Also, Can the internet sites really be trusted?

Many thanks, I look forward to hearing your reply.

I Am Not A Suitable Candidate For Invisalign And Will Need Train Tracks For About 18 Months. Is This Something You Can Assist With?

Tuesday, March 11th, 2014
Q.

I have a severe over bite (where the first set of teeth overlap the bottom set completely) because of this both sets of teeth go inwards. My teeth are generally straight however the problem is that both sets need pushing out and my over bite needs to be addressed. I have previously been advised (about 2 years ago) that I am not suitable for Invisalign and that I will indeed need train tracks for about 18 months – 2 years. Is this something you can assist with? I am happy to have train tracks if needed, however I do not want them to be overly visible if that’s okay? Ideally I would like to get booked in ASAP to start treatment. I look forward to your response.
Kind Regards.

I Had Two Teeth Extracted And I Can Feel The Root Of My Canine Through My Gum. Is This Normal?

Monday, March 10th, 2014
Q.

Hi Mark. I had two teeth extracted in November 2013 and the gap seems to be closing fairly quickly – I had my upper first premolars extracted. But last month I felt the root of my canine through my gum, by that I don’t mean it’s protruding the gum line, I can just feel the root and the top of the root. I’ve spoken to my orthodontist and was told ‘they are keeping an eye on this tooth, it will be fine’. Is this normal?

I’m currently two years into my treatment and should be ready for jaw surgery by June/July this year. Thank you.

I Am Using Lots Of Wax To Stop My Braces Hurting. Do You Have Any Advice That Can Help Me With This?

Monday, March 10th, 2014
Q.

Hi Mark. I had lingual braces on 2 weeks ago and I am using lots of wax but my teeth feel like they have razor blades stuck in between them that are ripping my tongue to shreds and I am lisping badly. I am a 51 year old female and am totally regretting my decision. It cost an enormous amount of money and now I do not want to go out in public as I constantly lisp and I am always aware of it. I regret not doing more research, I had no idea it would be so painful. Any advice?

Can You Tell Me If Polycarbonate Braces Are Better Than Damon Braces?

Monday, March 10th, 2014
Q.

I visited a dentist recently for RCT and cap, I have been toying with the idea of getting braces and so I started some research and came across damon/damon clear, etc.  So when I asked him about it he said that he uses polycarbonate braces which are advanced and a bit cheaper. I came back and when I searched I couldn’t find anything about polycarbonate being better than Damon, I have another visit scheduled tomorrow, what are the questions I need to ask him before I go through with it? I also read that plastic braces contain BPA and it increases over time. I am confused, any help is appreciated.

I’m Unsure About Having Jaw Surgery And Extracting My Premolars. Would This Cause Me Any Problems In The Future?

Monday, March 10th, 2014
Q.

Hey Mark, I have had a consultancy appointment concerning jaw surgery where I was told I would have my upper jaw broken in two places and worked on separately and then my lower jaw moved back. There is nothing particularly wrong with my teeth; I just have an open bite. The surgeon told me I will have to have my wisdom teeth out along with my premolars so he has somewhere to enter to do the surgery, I have read up on this and with other patients the surgeon has just entered through the root of the mouth. I know in the end it will solve the problem of my open bite but what are the repercussions of the first premolar removals? Will it affect the end product of my teeth alignment or cause any problems in the future? Thank you, I look forward to your reply.
