Can The NHS Replace My Missing Teeth with Implants?

Thursday, July 2nd, 2015
Q.

Hi. I had my 3 front teeth smashed from my mouth in a violent assault. I am currently unemployed, will the NHS replace them with implants? Why they were removed still remains a mystery as the roots were all whole and secure just the fronts of the teeth were sheared off, so I need to know if I can have them replaced with implants before the bone starts to degenerate. They were removed a few years ago and I cannot stand to smile anymore as I had a gap for a few years but now my dentist sacrificed two other teeth to make a bridge. I can tell it won’t last longer than a year, two if I am lucky, they aren’t in very well and look like horse teeth with no attempt to match the teeth I have. It was a violent attack with a baseball bat that scarred me mentally as well as physically and now what the dentist has done as a professional care giver to me seems more like abuse. Please tell me if I can have them all replaced with implants on the NHS.

My Teeth Are Bad to Due Lack of Brushing. What Can I Do?

Thursday, June 11th, 2015
Q.

Hi, I’m 18 and have horrible social anxiety and agoraphobia due to my confidence about my teeth. They are horrible and all need replacing. This all cam from lack of brushing as a child and the problem grew, what’s the best way to do this? I fear I can never have a normal life in this modern day with my smile or lack of, being 18 I am not rich and don’t a lot of money. Any ideas? I would do anything but I can’t find anything about pricing for this as it’s pretty unheard of and it’s ruining my life.

Currently my front four teeth are gone and the bottom ones are all out of line and the gum line is going down. I really hope you can help me figure out what I can do to get a new smile and hopefully get a life back again, I’m starting to lose hope.

Can I Have Implants If I Grind My Teeth?

Friday, June 5th, 2015
Q.

Hi there. I have bruxism (grinding/clenching teeth in my sleep) and retainers don’t help. Due to that I have craked my teeth and had to have them extracted. I was given dentures, which I have been wearing for over 2 years. Even though they are vaeloplast flexible ones, I have noticed they are damaging the other teeth they hold onto- I am contemplating implants but because of the bruxism I’m not sure if thats a good idea. The teeth that need replacing are all in the lower part of mouth- I have had 1 implant for the top tooth but the tooth is yet to be put on. I would appreciate your advice on this. I look forward to hearing from you soon. Many thanks.

What Orthodontic Treatment Would I Qualify For?

Tuesday, May 26th, 2015
Q.

I’m a 20 year old student and very self conscious. My canines broke through my gums on my top rack of teeth because my baby teeth didn’t fall out until late. My right one fell out a few months ago, therefore my canine has lowered into place but is slightly twisted. My left canine hasn’t been able to lower because the baby tooth still hasn’t fallen out. This has led to the canine severely twisting.
All I want is for the final baby tooth to be removed and for my front six teeth (my top incisors and canines) to be straightened. What treatment would I qualify for? How much will it be and is there any extra help for students?

Why Am I Still in Pain After Having a Tooth Removed?

Thursday, May 21st, 2015
Q.

I had my double tooth took out as it split in half. It had a root canal filling in it. the dentist removed that as well. This was 3 weeks ago. I am in terrible pain, so went back to the dentist. They said I had an infection. and put me on antibiotics for 5 days. I am still in agony all around that gum area. I can only eat on one side. I still get a lot of pain round that area. All round there is very sensitive. What should I do?

Can Teeth be Re-Shaped?

Wednesday, May 20th, 2015
Q.

Hello. I have chipped teeth from an injury, but can teeth be shaped? It is only the tips that need to be filed and whitened.
So my teeth are strong and I do not want veneers, just my shaped and made very white. I want a consultation and to avoid veneers. There is a tooth that would require implants because it broke in half. How much would this cost? I would like great smile, thank you.

I’m Not Comfortable with my Crowns. Can They Be Altered?

Tuesday, May 12th, 2015
Q.

I have paid approximately £10,000 for most of my teeth to have crowns.
The bottom teeth were done last and I had several sets of temporaries to get the bite correct. The bottom finals have gone in but the front 4 teeth are too tall, they are predominant and quite apparent whilst I’m talking. They also point forward quite a lot. This is nothing like the temporaries that were fitted. I’m not comfortable with these teeth. I had them done 10 days ago. What do I do if the dentist makes it difficult for me to change after explaining? I’d really appreciate an opinion from yourself Andrew.

Would I Still Qualify for Free Braces with the NHS?

Tuesday, May 5th, 2015
Q.

I went to an orthodontist when I was 18 and they said I needed braces, but under his licence he could not give them to me because of my age and so sent me to an NHS hospital to get them done. I have a 6-9mm overbite and I was advised to have jaw alignment surgery, but I refused because I did not want to change the shape of my face. However I was still eligible for braces. The dentist took pictures of my teeth and took scans and a cast.

However, at that time I was taking exams and so could not discuss any further as the appointments interrupted my revision/exam time. I am now in university and still want the braces. Is my condition serious enough for free braces or could it still be counted as cosmetic?

Do I Have a Cavity?

Friday, April 24th, 2015
Q.

Dear doctor,
I am experiencing some discomfort at the moment, probably the upper left 4 or 5 teeth, but I think is the premolar and it is sensitive to sweet things. Could it be a cavity or maybe too much hard brushing on that side, considering that I just chew from that side of the mouth?
I’m getting worried because on the right side a very deep cavity was not found in the past and I had to have a root canal treatment.
I m scheduled with a dentist but I just wanted to have some extra advice to be on the safe side…my OPG taken in December doesn’t show any abnormalities or caries.
Many thanks in advance, I hope you can help me.

How Can I Stop My Front Teeth From Sticking Out?

Tuesday, April 21st, 2015
Q.

Hi, very quick question.  I’m 30 years old and my top front teeth stick out. How would I go about making these look ‘normal’ and how much would it cost?

I believe you can have invisible braces, although I’m not sure how long you would need them in for and if they actually are invisible. I’m quite happy having artificial front teeth if that is possible? It just gets to the point where everyday I feel down about it.

Thanks.
