Will braces get in the way of me going to Australia?

Wednesday, March 10th, 2010
Q.
Hello, I am currently undergoing orthodontic treatment but am no where near finishing. I first applied for treatment when I was 14 but unfortunately my details got lost somewhere which delayed my treatment dramatically. Because of this I am now 18 and have only been having Orthodontic treatment for about 6 months. I have planned to take a gap year to Australia before going to university for a number of years now and would be very dissapointed if my treatment jeapordised this. I am getting my braces through the NHS for free and am wondering what will happen if I go to Australia? Thank you ,

How long will it be to fix overbite with retainer?

Tuesday, March 9th, 2010
Q.
Hi, i got retainers for overbite in August, and wore them everyday, day and night for about a month, then i stopped after they were tightened because it was too painful, but i decided that im going to wear them again. How long will i have to wear them for my overbite to be cured? Also, i have a gap in my front teeth, and there is no metal/brace on my retainer for that, so i think i am getting fixed braces after my overbite is cured. How long till the gap closes up? Thank you.,

Been told that braces can not fix crooked teeth so what can?

Tuesday, March 9th, 2010
Q.
Hello. One of my two front teeth is severely crooked. It came out twisted just about 180 degrees turned. How can this be fixed? I’ve gone for an orthodontics consulation but was told that braces may not be able to completely straighten it, what options are there? Thanks,

Would braces be covered by the NHS?

Friday, March 5th, 2010
Q.
Hi Dr Caplan, i am 27 and have what i consider really crooked teeth which are probably caused by an overlapping bight. I have arranged through my dentist to see a specialist about braces or what would need to be done and my dentist says it would probably require surgery to align the jaw. Would the NHS cover any of this? I dont have a high paying job, but have a crooked smile really affects my confidence and i really want to get this fixed.,

Will braces damage caps already in place?

Thursday, March 4th, 2010
Q.
I am 45. I sucked my thumb until I was 26! I also had a slight left side cross bite. I wore an upper plate brace when I was 11 but wasn’t given anything to keep the teeth in place, so over time they went back to how they were. When I was 30 I had my front teeth capped, as you could not see any of my upper teeth (and I mean any) when I smiled. My mouth was also sucken as you can image and I had deep lines. They brought two teeth over the bottom set of teeth to rectify the cross bite and lengthed the teeth so you could see them. I have a very long lip also so you cannot see my gums. Although the caps have improved my smile and support to my mouth area vastly, my upper set of teeth is still very narrow and the uncapped teeth go inwards, not giving me much support. I am considering braces, however I am frightened the caps which I can’t afford to replace will be damaged? Please note that I am told my teeth are very healthy, it is just that the upper set are displaced. I cannot tell you how trumatic my showing no teeth, while I was growing up has been for me, with people not liking me until they got to know me etc. Even the cutting down of my otherwise healthy teeth and having caps has been a huge truma for me, I’ve never really felt comfortable with the caps. Also can you recommend a good cosmetic/orthadentist. In central or west London. Thank you.,
