What can be done about my relapse after wearing braces?

Tuesday, April 5th, 2011
Q.

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone could help me please:

I have had braces previously and after wearing the retainer for 12 months 24hrs a day, was told I didnt need it anymore and it was taken back from the dentist. Within three months my teeth were very near to their pre braced state and the four years of braces were wasted.

I have breathing difficulties and breathe out of my mouth and the dentist had a go saying it was my fault and nothing he could do.

Ever since, the healthiness and state of my teeth have decreased, as I am o embarrased and self concious.

To others they may not seem that bad, but like someones weight might get them down, its my teeth that do it for me.

I want to be hapy in myself again and would love to start smiling again.

I am wondering if anyone knows of any trainee orthodontists that require to do this for their exam or something, as I am 20 now and despite being in full time education, I am not sure if the NHS would cover considering Ive had them before (Im pretty sure they wont).

This is not a cosmetic issue as I am not materialistic or girly like that, but this is a really personal thing. I want to help someone to help me and that will encourage me and give me a goal to look after my teeth for.

I hope someone can help me,

Thanks very much,

Are there surgical alternatives to wearing a holding brace?

Tuesday, April 5th, 2011
Q.

I have just turned 18 and have been through the first stage of my treatment at my orthodontists. It was a twin block brace, which was in for 14 months and corrected my overbite. I was happy to get out, unfortunately I didnt realise I would have a wear a holding brace with a big plastic block which covers the roof of my mouth and hangs below my front teeth. This brace will then be fitted with a fixed brace to straighten them while maintaining my gums position. I find this brace incredibly intrusive and I would like to know if this treatment is completely necessary. If theres any surgery that can be done and what are the expenses if so.

What is the best way to straighten teeth abroad?

Tuesday, April 5th, 2011
Q.

Hello,
I am 20 years old and had a train track brace in my teens. However, after forgetting my retainer on a 2 week holiday and chipping the front teeth, they have began moving back to the original place and i am unhappy with them. I have been looking into getting the invisalign treatment or even veneers on my 2 front teeth as i would feel worried that over time and the hassle of wearing a retainer for the rest of my life would make my natural teeth move back again. Please send me any information or advice you can offer on having this treatment abroad and the pros and cons. Thank you.

Is it possible to have braces adjusted by dentists all over the world when I travel?

Monday, April 4th, 2011
Q.

Hi
I want to straighten my crooked teeth and have though of braces. The thing is that I travel abroad a lot and so cannot use this the same orthodontist for adjustments which I understand are roughly every month. Is it possible to get the braces fixed in one clinic and then whist abroad have adjustments done elsewhere? Thanks

I’m wearing braces but am not happy with teeth size, should I get veneers?

Monday, April 4th, 2011
Q.

Hello there, I am wondering what you think I should do.. I am 16 years old and have braces. My teeth are pretty straight and am getting them off soon. Its just I am really unhappy with the size of my teeth alot of people have said that my dentist will add at the bottom to make them look longer but I feel its the top of the teeth it needs to be added to. My gums are lower down than any normal person and before I had braces my mouth wouldn’t close at ease it would be me making my lips close because I have a high lip. As my lips were not closed my top lip just sat on my gum causing it to make an indent in my gum, but when laughing people can see it and I think its horrible! Also when I was 5 or 6 my teeth got hit with a car door which cause my to front teeth to chip quite badly the right one wasn’t so bad and is fixed with a cap? but the left one was split right across the half way mark and couldn’t be fixed with a cap so my dentist gave me a crown. I have done some research online and came across gum shrinking and porcelain veneers which I think would be a lot nicer than the teeth I have now, could you give me advice on what you think I should do? Thanks, Michelle

I have been wearing braces for six years, can I have them removed early?

Thursday, March 31st, 2011
Q.

hi
I am a female 22 yrs old. I have been wearing braces for the past 6 and half yrs. My teeth were croocked and croweded i had 2 teeth taken out from the bottom therefore this would provide the space needed to straighten them. I keep asking my orthodentist when will he remove them he keeps saying not. I have depresses and hate my teeth now as they’re not stright yet. I am also fed up of the pain that comes with. I just want them off and my orthodentist does not undrstand my frustration.
I have not paid for my braces as i got them on the NHS when i was 16. I cannot afford a second opinion. however I would appreciate any advice you can give me.
Kind regards.
