Can you please tell me if cosmetic surgery and orthodontics mean the same

Q. Dear DR. Komal, my question is related to my career. I apologize to bother you but i need a little guidance. Can you please tell me if cosmetic surgery and orthodontics mean the same and what catergory of dentistry has got more scope in today’s life? Thank you so much.

A. They are completely different. It really depends on what you enjoy and whether you are prepared to undergo the extensive training it takes in both these areas. There is a lot more to cosmetic and restorative dentistry than meets the eye and you would have to invest a great deal of time and money to get the proper training. Orthodontics is a 3 year postgraduate tyraining course and very difficult to get into. Either way you would have to be very dedicated. I guess there is less competition once you are a qualified orthodontist whereas in cosmetic dentistry any dentist can call themselves a cosmetic dentist even if they do not have the relevant training
Kind regards
