It’s time for a new denture – can my NHS dentist give me a Valplast one and will it affect my speech?
Q.
I’v had a partial denture since I was 13yrs old due to a sporting accident.I am now 56 and that dreaded time has come for it to be replaced. I have been to the same dentist since school and would feel very disloyal going elsewhere. My dentist is NHS but can I ask that the new denture be made of Valplast, and if so is the change in appearance and speech SO noticeable to others?

Dear Enquirer,
The change should not be noticeable if the denture is going to approximate the same shape and size as your old denture…however, since you have been wearing your current denture for many decades, I am presuming that it will be quite worn and it will take some time for you to get used to a new and different shaped denture and there may be a slight change in your speech.
I know you are loyal to your NHS practice but you may consider asking them if they can offer you a fixed option with implants, which may suit you better.

Sunita

Hi Dr Verma,
Thank you for your swift response, however I havent made my self clear, I have had my denture renewed on a regular basis over the years, I just dread it each time. Looking into options I have been reading about Valplast.
As regards implants I don’t honestly think I could afford them & reading about them I will be too much of a coward to go through with the procedure!!
Regards
Sue
I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHAT PRODUCT WILL HOLD MY DENTHERS THE BEST WAY? i HAVE TRIED ALMOST EVERYTHING?
You may need a new denture rather than spend money on fixatives? Or consider using dental implants to hold the denture firmly in place, that’s what I did!
Hi after visiting the dentist today she told me I have gum disease my teeth are Neva goin to get better can I request all of my top teeth out and have implants or dentures????
