I Had My Teeth Shortened As They Were Chipped. Now I Can’t Make Certain Sounds, Can You Help Me?

Tuesday, June 10th, 2014
Q.

Hello Dr Moore. I have had my teeth trimmed quite a bit due to being chipped. I now feel uncomfortable whenever I have to make a th sound. Is that due to trimming? And I just can’t remember how I used to do it. Before having them trimmed I used to make my tongue hit the back of my tongue mostly. With the shorten teeth it automatically wants to go underneath the teeth which doesn’t feel good. Do you have any tips for getting speech back after dental treatment? It’s really bugging me. Thanks.

Will braces help improve my sister’s smile and speech?

Monday, March 14th, 2011
Q.

My sister is 16. i think she has short gums for her whole row of upper teeth. when she smiles you can hardly see her teeth and even when she smiles her hardest you cant see her gums. also, her front upper teeth are very slanted outwards. i think thats why she speaks with a lisp. she doesnt have a short tongue. she got braces recently. i was wondering whether it will help her with her speech and whether her gums will be okay after that?

It’s time for a new denture – can my NHS dentist give me a Valplast one and will it affect my speech?

Monday, March 14th, 2011
Q.

I’v had a partial denture since I was 13yrs old due to a sporting accident.I am now 56 and that dreaded time has come for it to be replaced. I have been to the same dentist since school and would feel very disloyal going elsewhere. My dentist is NHS but can I ask that the new denture be made of Valplast, and if so is the change in appearance and speech SO noticeable to others?

My son is finding it hard to eat and talk with his new brace, what should we do?

Monday, March 7th, 2011
Q.

My son had both top and bottom set of braces fitted 3 days ago and much to my shock, he was also fitted with a device that looks like a cage in the roof of his mouth. We weren’t advised by his dentist prior to the treatment that this would be fitted and now my son is traumatised as he cannot eat or talk properly with it fitted. He wants it removing. His dentist told us it was a standard piece of kit when having a brace fitted but as he did not prior advise of this, as he fitted something that wasn’t necessary?
