How can I correct a cross bite where my lower jaw is stronger than my upper jaw?

Q.
I have a cross bite and my lower jaw is stronge than my top. Its not very prominent but to me my teeth look uneven.I saw one dentist who said i coud have invisalin lite to treat the front area or full set to widen out my smile. i saw a 2nd dentist and they said full set only . Then finally I saw a third who said invisalign is not for me as will nned brace. He said that whilst my teeth will be straight they may not sit comfirtably so must cosider actual bracr instead. I am so confused. The first dentist who advised invisalign lite or full smile is a Platinum dentist and comes recommended. What should I do ?
Help !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi

Generally speaking , fixed orthodontic braces will give you a much better result than Invisalign, especially when it comes to correcting difficult problems, such as crossbites. I have treated almost 500 people with Invisalign but when a person comes to see me and they have very complicated problems then I refer to our in-house specialist orthodontist.

If you’re in London we can certainly help

At this stage I’d suggest you seek the advice of a Specialist Orthodontist, or accept the Full Invisalign and do what you can with it. Invisalign Lite is very limited in what it can do so I’d avoid that unless you want something compromised.

hope that helps you decide?

Thankyou for your reply. I did decide on a brace and have had it on for 6 months now. My bottom teeth are perfect already and my top teeth are getting there. Maybe only another 6 months and they come off.
Many thanks,

How can a crossbite be fixed?

The best way to fix a crossbite is through orthodontics ideally fixed metal braces ( metal or white). Invisalign can correct some crossbites.

As a result of grinding my teeth since I was young (now 24 years old) my left upper and lower teeth have ground down more than my right side. When I bite my front teeth together there is a gap between my left upper and lower teeth which I can almost push part of my tongue though. I cannot dothis on the right side. My question is can this unevenness affect my speech? I sometimes feel my tongue fills into the gap on the left hand side andI find it slightly difficult to pronounce sounds such as ‘s’ and ‘th’ – I feel that sometimes this makes me stumble upon sounds and words. Also I think have a slight crossbite as a result as my teeth slide to the left upon biting together.. and my midline is not even. Could this also add to the problem? Looking forward to hearing your response, Thanks,

Hello, ive just visited the dentist today after finding a small chip on mybottom front tooth, he’s advised me that this due to my having a crossbiteon the upper left hand side and if fills the chip its will come off so i have arranged for him to sand it down slighyly and polish. Though hes recommended that i get braces to correct it. I was advised by previous dentists when I was 16 that i did not need them and now ten years on the last thing iwant to have is look like a teenager though i understand you can do invisable braces. may I have a free consulation for you to honestly assess this situation. I would really appreciate you help. Many thanks<

Can you tell me approximatelyhow much the average price for this type of treatment would be as I have no idea whether it would likely to be affordable. Thank you.

I have a small gap in my front teeth, and this is all I would like fixed. Is it likely that the length of time I will need to wear them will therefore be reduced?

Quite possibly. A clincheck will be able to determine the time of the treatment needed.

Hi there I am trying to decide between Inisalign and Damon braces. One tooth crosses in front of my top middle tooth, and I also have an overbite with crowding on the bottom front teeth. I would like to widen my top arch as my dentist has said that my teeth all point in slightly. Can you tell me if Invisalign would be able to do all of this? As it’s more expensive than Damon I would only choose Invisalign if it could do as much as Damon. Many thanks

June 8th, 2011 at 08:47 PM
Kiana Says :

Invisalign can definitely sort out your crowding and expand the arches very predictably.

hello, im looking into getting my son the invisalign treatment for his misaligned teeth. Basically they sit on opposite sides of each other, i think its called crossbite and it is really causing him problems with his confidence and his eating and speech at times. Have you ever treated crossbite with invisalign? is it generally effective? thank you

August 11th, 2011 at 08:47 PM
Jenna Says :

it depends on the severity of the crossbite and which teeth are in crossbite and how many teeth are in crossbite. If it is moderate to severe, your son may have to consider traditional fixed braces.

hello I have a very pronounced crossbite, which affects my eating and speaking and just causes embarrassment on a daily basis. I’ve got together some ‘brace money’ so I can finally get treatment and i just wanted to make sure I was asking for the best braces for my condition. In your professional opinion is invisalign a good choice for the treatment of crossbite? And if not is there anything else you can recommend? Any help you can give would be greatly appreciated and thank you for taking the time to read my email

it really depends on the severity of the crossbite. If the crossbite is too severe to correct with Invisalign, you can consider Damon braces. Best Wishes

hi for years my teeth have caused me a lot of embarrassment, especially my bottom jaw, which sticks out over my top jaw. This just makes me look hideous and ‘chinny’ and for years I have had to put up with name calling and taunts. I’ve finally got some money together to start treatment but im still a little bit unsure about what brace treatment to get. Do you think that invisalign would be a good brace to use for my situation? thank you

August 24th, 2011 at 08:47 PM
Josef Says :

It really depends on the severity of your bite. Milder cases of crossbites (which is what I think you may have)can be treated with invisalign, but more complex cases may have to be treated with Damon braces or traditional braces. Extreme cases may need surgery. I would recommend a consultation to find out what is the best option for you Kind Regards

m looking for braces for my top and bottom teeth, as my jaws don’t sit togehter properly. have you used invisalign to cure this before? and what would the general price of this treatment be? and round abouts how long would it take? thanks

September 6th, 2011 at 08:47 PM
Alisa Says :

It is very difficult to estimate your treatment cost and time. Usually if the jaws do not sit together, then you may have moderate to severe orthodontic problems, the usual fee is above 3500 and it usually takes about 15 months

Arjun Says :

I very rarely treat only one jaw as upper and lower teeth interlock together and it is very difficult to treat one jaw without treating the other. It is therefore very rare to do only one jaw and it is done when the problem is very mild or when the bite allows it.

Aubree Says :

Hi, Invisalign can indeed be used to correct crossbites but whether its the best solution for you is very difficult for me to answer without a full clinical and radiographical assessment. I would recommend you locate an experienced Invisalign Doctor and visit them for a full Invisalign consultation. The severity of your crossbite will play a big part in determining your suitability. I hope this helps

is invisalign a good idea for someone looking for treatment for crossbite? My smile is so awful and wonky and at times i find it difficult to eat. I would love to have straight teeth but am very keen to avoid metal braces, as i feel they will just draw even more attention to my awful smile. Do you think I have a chance of wearing invisalign? thank you

Grant Says :

it really depends on the severity of the crossbite and how many teeth are in crossibite. If you have many teeth in crossbite or a severe crossbite I would recommend you consider Damon braces or Lingual braces

Allyson Says :

Dear Enquirer, what exactly do you mean a crossbite with the 2 front teeth? If the upper teeth are behind the lower teeth then nau=ybe your lower jaw is longer than the upper jaw. You need to see a dentist who specialises in Invisalign to see if you are suitable

I have been experiences lock jaw for around 6 months now. I recently had my wisdom teeth out and ever since I have had severely painful lockjaw, worse than ever before. My jaw is constantly hurting and I cant chew things that are too hard or open my mouth past a certain point. It has been this way for about two months. I was advised by a dentist that braces could correct the problem. Is this true in most cases?

i have very severe crossbite and was just wondering if invisalign would be able to deal with this problem? I really want a brace that is both effective but unnoticeable and invisalign sounds really great, do you think it could help with my problems? if not are there any other brace systems you could recommend? thank you

January 9th, 2012 at 08:47 PM
Maurice Says :

It may not be able to completely correct your crossbite, invisalign can be used with elastics it does take a lot longer, you may be better of with a fixed appliance and possibly another appliance placed in the roof of your mouth. I would need to see you to give you the best options.
