Thankyou for your reply. I did decide on a brace and have had it on for 6 months now. My bottom teeth are perfect already and my top teeth are getting there. Maybe only another 6 months and they come off.

How can a crossbite be fixed?

The best way to fix a crossbite is through orthodontics ideally fixed metal braces ( metal or white). Invisalign can correct some crossbites.

As a result of grinding my teeth since I was young (now 24 years old) my left upper and lower teeth have ground down more than my right side.When I bite my front teeth together there is a gap between my left upper and lower teeth which I can almost push part of my tongue though. I cannot dothis on the right side. My question is can this unevenness affect my speech? I sometimes feel my tongue fills into the gap on the left hand side andI find it slightly difficult to pronounce sounds such as ‘s’ and ‘th’ – I feel that sometimes this makes me stumble upon sounds and words. Also I think have a slight crossbite as a result as my teeth slide to the left upon biting together.. and my midline is not even. Could this also add to the problem? Hello, ive just visited the dentist today after finding a small chip on mybottom front tooth, he’s advised me that this due to my having a crossbiteon the upper left hand side and if fills the chip its will come off so i have arranged for him to sand it down slighyly and polish. Though hes recommended that i get braces to correct it. I was advised by previous dentists when I was 16 that i did not need them and now ten years on the last thing iwant to have is look like a teenager though i understand you can do invisable braces. may I have a free consulation for you to honestly assess this situation. Hi there I am trying to decide between Inisalign and Damon braces. One tooth crosses in front of my top middle tooth, and I also have an overbite with crowding on the bottom front teeth. hello, im looking into getting my son the invisalign treatment for his misaligned teeth. Basically they sit on opposite sides of each other, i think its called crossbite and it is really causing him problems with his confidence and his eating and speech at times. Have you ever treated crossbite with invisalign? is it generally effective? thank you

it depends on the severity of the crossbite and which teeth are in crossbite and how many teeth are in crossbite. If it is moderate to severe, your son may have to consider traditional fixed braces.

hi for years my teeth have caused me a lot of embarrassment, especially my bottom jaw, which sticks out over my top jaw. It really depends on the severity of your bite. Milder cases of crossbites (which is what I think you may have)can be treated with invisalign, but more complex cases may have to be treated with Damon braces or traditional braces. I very rarely treat only one jaw as upper and lower teeth interlock together and it is very difficult to treat one jaw without treating the other. It is therefore very rare to do only one jaw and it is done when the problem is very mild or when the bite allows it.

Dear Enquirer, what exactly do you mean a crossbite with the 2 front teeth? If the upper teeth are behind the lower teeth then nau=ybe your lower jaw is longer than the upper jaw. You need to see a dentist who specialises in Invisalign to see if you are suitable

I have been experiences lock jaw for around 6 months now. I recently had my wisdom teeth out and ever since I have had severely painful lockjaw, worse than ever before. My jaw is constantly hurting and I cant chew things that are too hard or open my mouth past a certain point. It has been this way for about two months. I was advised by a dentist that braces could correct the problem. Is this true in most cases?

I’m not sure if i would start with braces. I think I would try to wear a bite raising appliance at night first and then see how it goes

It may not be able to completely correct your crossbite, invisalign can be used with elastics it does take a lot longer, you may be better of with a fixed appliance and possibly another appliance placed in the roof of your mouth. I would need to see you to give you the best options.
