Are there any cost effective replacement options as good as dental implants?

Monday, November 28th, 2011
Q.

Our dentist has suggested dental implants for my wife who is 70 years of age. Dentist says that her gums are in good shape and will hold the implants. She needs three implants in upper and lower gums. My concern is age and post-menoposal stage. Howevere she has no bad post-monoposal signs and symptoms and not diabetic. What do you advise? We know our dentist for long time and trust him but I am looking for second opinion as the procedure is costly.

After dental implant surgery, I can see my jaw next to the buttons, is this normal?

Tuesday, March 8th, 2011
Q.

I have just had dental implant surgery yesterday and although feeling a bit achy in the jaw everything seems to be fine. I have just been brave enough to look at the gum though and it looks as if a part of my jaw is showing through the gum. The dental surgeon did put things he called buttons in to my jaw so I don’t know if it might be one of these I can see. The surgery was at the back top left of my jaw to replace three missing teeth. Does this sound okay.

I had a molar tooth extracted and need a bone graft to replace supporting bone, will this be successful?

Thursday, January 20th, 2011
Q.

In November I had a bad tooth extracted, UR7, proir to an implant. Unfortunately the extraction revealed that a lot of the supporting bone had gone, leaving insufficient to anchor an implant. I was referred to a specialist who suggested a bone graft, taking a donantion from the lower front of my jaw. I’m not keen on this solution, partly because I shall have two wounds to heal and partly because I appear to be losing bone, both in the vacinity of this upper right quadrant and in another location where I had an implant a few months ago. I would be grateful for your advice, particularly regarding the likely success of the bone graft, eg will the bone in the donor site regrow, given my history of bone loss? Thanks.

How can I make sure that my dental implants are being done to the best standard?

Wednesday, November 24th, 2010
Q.

I’m currently going through 5 tooth implants. I’m very suspicious the dentists doing the work aren’t much good. Every time i go for an appointment the seem too interested in the next appointment and they keep leaving things to be done next appointment, One of the Titanium posts has been left bare, one of the plastic implants is slightly loose, that tooth seems to be too thin and the implant next to it seems to be too big, which looks ugly. Should i be worrying, particularly as this is costing a lot of money, i don’t expect total perfection but this does not seem right. and the of the large implants at the back is not straight and at an angle and is a bad food trap.

I was told a while back that I have bad peridonist and would lose my teeth and be unable to have implants as my bone would not support them, I have now had my two front upper teeth taken out and a denture fitted which I am not getting on with I have now heard that you can have treatment to enhance the jaw bone can you tell me if this is possible and the cost implications of this thanks,

What is an alveoplasty?

Thursday, September 2nd, 2010
Q.
i would like to know what an alveoplasty is exactly, and what i can expect, pain wise, after it’s over. i had an extraction of tooth #18 done 3/18/10, and the site had to be gone into 3 more times due to continual problems i was having. my jaw bone is sticking out of the gum a bit, and i was referred to an oral surgeon. he informed me of what needs to be done, he will file the bone down and check the socket to make sure nothing else is going on, and as a result, this will stir things up again and delay the healing process. what can happen if this isn’t taken care of?,
