Will implants restore my facial structure?

Tuesday, August 30th, 2011
Q.

Hello!
Three of my wisdom teeth and 2 molars (1st and second) were pulled this year in February. The appearance of my face has changed drastically. I am ready to get two new implants for the molars. Will the appearance of my face go back to the way it was, in some way? Also, is there a certain amount of time I should wait to get them replaced? What’s the longest amount of time I can wait before my teeth start shifting so much that I can’t get implants? Thank you!

I have had many tooth removals, can a human survive with only 26 teeth?

Monday, May 16th, 2011
Q.

Dear doctor,

i’m having a very complex situation,
im 24 years and i already lack 4 teeth in my mouth ,as they have been removed 11 years back due to crowded teeth.(2 canines from upper jaw and 2 molars from lower jaw)….& after that i had lovely straight teeth but recently the upper teeth have come forward. and i wanted to push them back. so my doctor says i should remove two of my molars from the upper jaw to gain space and push the front teeth back. (as i have already done with the expander also and still the teeth are not in the proper place)

but im too scared to remove molars because if i remove two molars now, i will be left with only 12 teeth in the uper jaw and im scared it will alter my facial structure and make my face look flat as people say.
so doctor, will it affect my facial shape and lips in a negative way like that?

is it ok to have 26 teeth? i mean can a human survive with 26 teeth?

and is it a good option to remove 2 molars?

please please answer my problems and help me to take a better decision about removing teeth. thank you very much.,

Could tooth removals change my facial profile?

Thursday, March 31st, 2011
Q.

my orthodontic has referred me to a dentist, the dentist will have to extract my pre-molar teeth, 2 of them, now my concerns are:

1: removing my pre molar teeth, would this have any change on my facial profile such as looking thinner or jus different because of a tooth being extracted from the right hand side and the left hand side? (i mean permanent impact)
2:if it has any impact on my facial features then what are these impacts, i have done research and some dentists say that it could have an impact on the facial profile,

my dentist will extract two teeth from top right and top left, this will leave a gap, then my frotn 4 top teeth will be pushed back and this will fill the gap slowly, so i would liek to know if this process stop any facial impact

the thing with me is that i dont want to look different for example extracting my teeth is a worry to me becaue i fear this could change my facial feature hence chaning my gums within my mouth and effecting how my jaw line looks and cheek area looks,

please would u assist me here if you are able to answer this, plz reply immediatly

thank u

Will lingual braces change my facial structure?

Monday, March 28th, 2011
Q.

I am planning to get lingual braces, but I am afraid of the changes my facial features will have as a end result of a two year treatment plan. My orothodontist is telling me that if the treatment is done correctly there will be no change in my facial structure, yet I see many accounts on forums on the internet of lingual brace users with facial changes. I am to have four extractions (two behind bilateral, upper canine teeth, and two behind lower, bilateral canine teeth). I like my youthful face with high cheek bones…will this treatment hallow out my features and make me look older?

Could my braces have changed the shape of my face?

Thursday, March 3rd, 2011
Q.

I am 29yr old male. I have had braces for 1 yr now on lower teeth with 1 extraction-second molar on my left. This was to correct and straighten my teeth. I am noticing a thinning of my face – making it look narrow. Everyone keeps saying ‘you have lost weight’ but I have not. My ortho says it cannot be braces, as only jaw surgery can change my jawline. I am very worried. Is he right? What can I do? He is moving my back teeth to cover the gap from the extraction. Thank you.

My fixed bridge has changed my facial appearance, what can I do?

Thursday, January 27th, 2011
Q.

I have a fixed bridge of 12 units. It was placed almost a year ago with a temporary cement by a dental technician. now I noticed that my facial appearance changed. it looks like I don’t have my front teeth, they seem to be sinking. My upper lip looks flat and my chin seems to protrude. I really feel bad looking at the mirror. How to correct this? Please help me Doctor. Many thanks to you.

Is jaw surgery really necessary to correct my open bite?

Thursday, December 9th, 2010
Q.

Brace/Openbite
I have recently had braces applied to my top set of teeth to try and correct an open bite. I have been told that I will probably have to undergo surgery which will involve removing part of the bone in my upper jaw and reconnecting it with pins and plates. I have only recently (the past 2 years) suffered with an open bite, so my dentist (not maxillofacial surgeon) thinks the problem is connected to cartilage in my temporomandibular joint. I am bit concerned with having the surgery on my top jaw as it sounds and looks horrendous. I am not concerned with the option of having my lower jaw repositioned if this could correct the problem. Any comments would be appreciated.

Thanks

I am happy with results of braces but what can I do?

Tuesday, February 23rd, 2010
Q.
hope all is well. i am 21 and approaching the end of my orthodontic treatment. i got my braces in a few months before my 18th birthday. i always had straight teeth and never really felt i need braces, until my dentist told me i would need them due to me having an overbite. i was told i would need to extract 2 teeth from my upper and that the gaps will close with the treatment thus reducing my overbite. (my overbite before treatment was 7mm and now it is 3mm.) now near the end of my treatment, i am not happy with the results at all. firstly, i feel my teeth are much worse of than what they used to be. i also feel that my facial structure and features have also changed. i dont like my new smile and feel my teeth have moved too far back. my lips are much bigger and my profile isnt as good as it used to be. i feel very low and depressed and have lost my confidence. i use to be very happy and full of confidence, always a smile on my face. now doctor, i dont know what to do. does orthodontic treatment really change the shape of your face and your features? (well with the treatment ive had done anyway). and if i wanted to remove the braces and allow my teeth to go back to their normal position, will my features go back to what they used to be and my teeth go back to where they were without any problems? ive spoken to my orthodontist and he’s told me that treatment does not not change any facial features and only surgery can do that. unfortunately, i dont believe him. ive also looked alot on the internet but people seem to give different answers. it would be much appreciated if you could help me and answer the above questions and give me some advice. thank you for your time doctor and look forward to hearing from you soon. kind regards,
