I’ve Started Feeling Some Discomfort After A Deep Cavity Filling. Is It Normal For A Cavity Filling To Take This Long To Heal?

I had a dentist appointment on for a cleaning. I was not experiencing any problems but my dentist said that I had 2 cavities that needed to be filled. I had those filled a week later. About two weeks later, I started feeling some discomfort, so I went back and he said the bite was off so he did some drilling and had me bite down and said it should be better. I am still experiencing the same problem. I went back a week after that and he did not do anything and told me to be patient. Is it normal for a cavity filling to take this long to heal? I hope you can help me with this.

Hello. Thank you for reaching me. A deep cavity can take a while to settle. If it’s only slightly uncomfortable wait, but if it appears to be progressively worse then ask him to take another look. If you are still unsatisfied by your dentist try a second opinion. Without seeing you in person at my clinic it’s difficult to assess your situation fully. Best wishes, Dr Andrew Moore.
