I lost my front tooth but the root is still intact, would the root have to be removed so I can receive a dental implant?

Monday, September 10th, 2012
Q.

Hi

I have recently lost my front tooth, the root is still intact, I was wondering if I would have to remove the root to get a dental implant fitted, or is there a technique where you can use the root as a base.

Also, I would like to know about a smile remake over, I would like my other tooth contoured and the front few teeth looked at. What is the latest in contouring and imaging on teeth to get the best results

I have a chip in my front tooth which has left a small gap, what should I do about this?

Q.

hiya DR Hughes, i hope you’re okay?

my question is that i have not very bad teeth but quite bad and haven’t really looked after them and know i should have. i am 23 years of age and my front tooth has chipped and left a small gap. i have other holes and stuff in my teeth just wondering what could be done to improve and get them right and white again? for example my tooth at the front has a finger nail thickness gap now and also have holes and gaps else where but not many. they are straight enough and basically i have been scared of dentist for a while i would like to be knocked out or similar procedure for my teeth to be put right again as i really do have a phobia of the dentist…any advice?

Q.

Hi there iv just had the first stage of root canal on the left lower side of my mouth 4th tooth from the front, iv got a temporary filling in at the moment untill me next appointment in 1 week iv been careful in trying not to eat that side and being carfull also when I brush, but this morning about 1/4 of the tooth broke off on the inside it is a very small part but I am slightly worried that it will have to be removed even though I’m sure that’s not the case I would like to be reassured, will I still be able to get a crown fitted even though a small part broke off and shall I try to get my appointment moved forward instead of leaving it another week I don’t eat more to fall of, iv had root canal befor but this problem didn’t ocoure ? I had a negative experience with the dentist many years ago and my teeth are now severly decayed, what are my options?

Monday, August 20th, 2012
Q.

Hi Dr Moore, I had a negative experience with my dentist in the 70’s involving sedation and as a result have only been to the dentists once since then (im 41 now) I have several decayed teeth and am in constant pain and can only eat soft food, Im at the stage now where i’d like all my teeth extracted and dentures fitted, I’ve never been able to afford it before but now after losing my job I have a NHS tax credit exemption certificate for the first time in my life so I really need to sort this before it finally pushes me over the edge. I’d like to know if I’d be able to get this done on the NHS or will they try to talk me out of it with partial dentures? Also will they extract all the teeth in one hit as theres no way I could leave the house with no teeth. How much will this cost as I realise i’d have to pay something towards this! Thanks for your time!

I am worried that my son’s teeth will not develop correctly in the future, what should I do?

Tuesday, July 17th, 2012
Q.

hello,

my 9 year old son got tripped over at school today when he was running and fell on the school playground and hit his face onto the ground and broke a few of the teeths at the front, the front top 2 tooths were broken in half with sharp egdes and a couple below has small pieces broken off too.
i took him to the dentist straight away but had to wait 2-3 hours to be seen and they have placed some tempory filling and also some cream on where his nerves are exposed behind 1 of the front teeth.
they have booked him in again in 2 weeks time for fillings.
will this effect his damaged teeths in future?
will the filling break off and will he need to change his teeths when he gets older as he’s only 9 years old now.
i am very worried, please advise me!

best regards.

My teeth are very worn down due to severe acid erosion, how much should I expect to pay to have this problem fixed?

Tuesday, July 10th, 2012
Q.

Hi Doctor Moore, I am a 38 year old man who has suffered with bulimia for many years, it is now in remision. I have a fair amount of acid erosion and shortening of my teeth. I see my dentist every six months and he tells me my oral hygeine is very good. I am concerned about how my teeth look and how long they will last. I feel it my be time to get something done. I am an anxious patient even though I am a health care profeesional, my anxiety is also exacerbated by the shame of being a male with this illness. Could you tell me what my options might be and how much I could be expected to spend.

My filling constantly falls out, will this affect me having a brace fitted?

Tuesday, July 10th, 2012
Q.

I have severely crooked teeth and what I think is a side bite if I remember rightly what a dentist told me about 10 years ago. I am 26 and as a teenager didn’t persist with my retainer brace. What I was told needed done was to widen my top palet 1st before being able to have braces fitted. As i say I didn’t see this through as a teenager due to feeling like the retainer affected my every day life/confidence/self esteem more than having crooked teeth. I wish I hadn’t been so silly back then. Anyway my problem now and question to you is this….I have had trouble with 2 back teeth (one either side) that started breaking and crumbling away after having my 2nd child, they have since been filled numerous times but one sides filling keeps falling out. Would this effect me trying to have a brace fitted now?

How can I correct my stained and chipped teeth?

Friday, June 1st, 2012
Q.

Hello,
I knocked out my two front teeth around 10 years ago when I was 11 years old. I have had braces fitted twice which alined the rest of my teeth however the front two are chipped due to my accident and one is shorter then the other, I would like a professional oppinion as to whether there is anything i can do to get my teeth looking ‘perfect’. I had to undergo procedures every 1-3 months for root treatment for around 2 years on the front teeth but during this time they began to disintergrate in the small gap that is now between them and have gone slightly darker. I have had my teeth whitened several times which does not seem to last long even though i have a healthy diet and do not smoke or drink things such as coffee or red wine as suggested by my dentist. Any suggestions are appreciated.

Kind regards.
