What treatment options are available for receding gums?

Q. Hello there, i have a crown on my front tooth due to an accident 20 years ago. I had it replaced about 5 yrs ago but in that time my gum has began to recede, i feel very contious of this as i have a big smile, can you give any advice on what i could do, my dentist said that there wasn’t anything that could be done..?,
A. You could have gum surgery to replace the gum or look at having a new crown placed with gum coloured porcelain at the top.  If the tooth is failing the best option may be a dental implant.
