What can be done to stop teeth from turning black?

Q. Hi, one of my top front teeth started to show signs of discoloration & i when i went to the dentist he advised i had a root canal & a vaneer fitted. I have noticed that the tooth underneath the vaneer has started to turn black, is there anything i can do? Also i have noticed that the other tooth has now started to discolour like the other one did, is there anything i can do to stop this turning black as well? I have contemplated whitening but how will this affect if i have had a vaneer fitted?,
A. It is commen for a tooth to appear darker when the nerve is dying or has died. You may wish to consider replacing the veneer with a crown, as this will give much better coverage to disguise the colour change. In respect of the other tooth, I would recommend that you attend the dentist, to assess whether the nerve is dying, and to plan any necessary treatment. I wish you well with this. Kindest Regards.
