What are the retainers following 6 month smiles like?

Dear Rob Tennet, I would like to enquire about retainers that are worn after 6months smile, I was advised that a retainer should be worn every night for life, my query is on average how long does a normal retainer (that looks similar to Invisalign) last for until you need a replacement, and how much does a replacement on average cost? (for the top arch only). Many thanks and king regards.,
A. most retainers will last a few years depending on cleaning and whether you grind your teeth at night. expect to pay £90 -200 per retainer.

How does the cost of 6 month smile compare to other types of braces. e.g traditional, invisalign. I have minor crowding on top and bottom. I live in Cardiff but would be willing to travel anywhere. A general range of price would be much obliged.
