What are side effects of hydrogen peroxide in teeth whitening

Q. Thanx Dr.for ur advive about the curved root canal i wanna ask u another question which is about the bleaching and whitining of the teeth what are the side effects of the hydrogen peroxide and how to isloate the gingiva and soft tissue from the irritation of it and what is better the light cure or chemical cure whiting and thank u so much

A. Well i have found that teeth whitening works best when everything is used in moderation. Teeth whitening is safe is done correctly. Any bad press it has received is very much down to incorrect technique, not following instructions, buying cheap whitening systems and even applying very high levels of peroxide to get a “Better” result.

I isolate the gingivae using a rubber dam material called Liquid Dam. It is a light cure material, which is runny initially allowing it to be placed around the necks of the teeth and then cured. This curing action seals the gingivae away ensuring the peroxide is not in contact with the soft tissues. The light cure system generates heat. By proper moisturizing and application of vitamin E creams to the lips you can protect them from harm.

With regards to if chemical cure or light cure being better – it is difficult to say with 100% certainty. The teeth themselves play a big factor with regards to final shade, but in my experience the light cure generates more heat and this has a dehydration effect which cannot be generated by the chemical cure.
