My wisdom teeth are being removed. Will they take out all of the root?

Monday, November 22nd, 2010
Q.

i have had toothache for almost 3-4 weeks, i was told that it was my wisdom tooth that needed to be extracted but the root of the tooth was crooked, i am worried that the dentist will not be able to take the full tooth and root out, what will happen if some of the root is left in, and will nmy dentist remove it all before i leave the chair??

I have a hard bite problem and need a cheap solution. Do you have anything that can help?

Monday, November 22nd, 2010
Q.

Hi Andrew,

Im a 20 year old female, and im currently suffering from Bruxism and a very uncomfortable bite which i think had made it worse. i want to see if i qualify for orthodontic treatment on the NHS.

I’ve always ground my teeth at night but in the last year it has gotten quite severe, and more noticable since my boyfriend moved in and has to wake me up to stop constantly in the night. i wake up with an aching jaw and headaches most days and dread going to sleep incase i cause more damage…

i had a brace when i was 13 but since i had it off and i gradually stopped wearing my retainer, my wisdom teeth have started coming through and slowly my bite has become unbearable, my molars dont align comfortably and this bothers me to the point where i think about it throughout the day and find myself clenching my jaw and rubbing my front teeth against eachother.

Im also extremely worried about my enamel. i have a weak stomach and have developed an intolerance to alcohol which ive only just recognised, but for the last 3 or 4 years have been sick at least once a month and up to twice a week. consequently my front teeth are transparant half way down.

my teeth are very sensitive and ive started to get a shooting pain up one of my molars which comes and goes, my dentist x rayed and said nothing was wrong.

Im wondering if my wisdom teeth coming through in the last couple of years has caused my bite to change and has subsequently made the bruxism worse?

ive got to the point where i go to sleep and have nightmares about my teeth and spend all day with an aching jaw and headahce worrying about it and then dread going to sleep…

i know theres plates available but im wondering if i can get my bite fixed with orthodontics on the NHS? Would i qualify for this?
I want to get it sorted and feel more comfortable and stop worrying but im a student and i cant afford to pay for it privately. is there a cheap way to fix the problem?

Thank you for your time,
I’d love some advice, or some kind of alternative for a low budget. This is causing me so much stress and discomfort.

Thanks a lot

Is the pain around gum at the back of my mouth a wisdom tooth erupting?

Friday, October 8th, 2010
Q.
Hi there, I just wanted some reassurance regarding a tooth. I have read the pages on this website which seemed very in depth & helpful. I’ve been reading on the subject of wisdom teeth. On my lower jaw, I have developed some soreness around the gum. I think it’s one of my wisdom teeth trying to come through. It feels like tooth ache, but no tooth is there, also do they come through at different times, as I have to trouble on the other side of the lower jaw. Thanks for any help with my questions. ,

Can I put my own temporary filling in the tooth with the large hole?

Friday, September 3rd, 2010
Q.
Hello I am due to get my 2 remaining widom teeth out under GA in 2 weeks. One of my wisdoms has a large decayed hole which is just starting to hurt. I was thinking about plugging the cavity with a self administered temporary filling to stop it hurting for 2 weeks. Do you think this is wise?,

How can the pressure be removed from a wisdom tooth to stop it from growing outwards?

Friday, August 27th, 2010
Q.
Hello, my boyfriends wisdom tooth is growing outward and into the cheek at the side. This causes him much pain on and off and has done for at least 5 years now. He has been to the dentist, but they said that they wouldn’t want to remove the tooth, because it could paralyse the face. Please can you tell me, can he have the tooth removed next to it, to take the pressure off the wisdom tooth and stop it growing into his cheek ? Many thanks, ,

I’m experiencing a lot of pain since the extraction of my wisdom tooth, is this normal?

Thursday, July 29th, 2010
Q.
Hi, I had my lower right wisdom tooth extracted in hospital 4 days ago under local. It was very traumatic, and now I am getting a constant throbbing pain all along my jaw line, right up to the socket of my jaw near my ear. I am taking normal paracetemol as well as Ibuprofen but the constant throbbing and aching is starting to take its toll. I’ve done exactly as asked, Corsodyl mouth washes, salt water washes, brushing teeeth after every meal (soup and yoghurt and mashed potato). Is it normal for there to be so much aching and throbbing? My other teeth next to the one which was removed are also feeling “on edge” and sensitive. There is also a foul taste in my mouth despite my regular teeth brushing and mouth washing so am worried I may have dry socket.,

Should I wait to receive treatment for painful teeth until I return home?

Monday, January 18th, 2010
Q.
hi, I have four wisdom teeth that have come through over a process of about 8 months. all the teeth are healthy. the bottom two “just fit in” however the top two are more of a problem. both are sticking out of the row, meaning they are leaning towards my cheeks. The right one in particular is sticking out a lot and is causing a fair bit of friction against my cheek. The gums are swollen and tender. i know my teeth are overcrowded now (before i had perfect teeth). my question is this: I have been away from Australia (my home) for over a year. I have two months left before i fly home. in these two months i will be in india – without decent medical assistance at hand. is it dangerous to leave my teeth like this for 2 months? can alot happen with the movement of my teeth in just two months? thanks,p.s also if i have a cavity in any of my teeth, can alot of decay occur in two months?,
