Which one is better Veneer or Crown?

Sunday, March 22nd, 2009
Q.
Hi Dr Patel I am about to have a crown fitted on a front tooth but am concerned whether this is best treatment. My front tooth is halved horizontally due to childhood accident but is still strong and the nerve still alive. My dentist recommends a crown (though originally proposed a veneer). The reason I’m getting dental work is that original cap (only fitted to bottom half of tooth) has now discoloured as I’m 38 and had original Crown at 10 yrs old. So it’s an aesthetic replacement. My teeth are in excellent condition and are very strong. What would you recommend? Veneer or Crown? My concern is weakening the tooth by filing away for a crown when I know the top half is strong and nerve alive. Regards

i have some bone loss and ive been told braces are not suitable

Wednesday, February 11th, 2009
Q.
I recently had a few consultations with a local orthodontist in Manchester with a view to having a brace, clearstep for example. However my x-rays revealed some bone loss, around one tooth in particular (I did suffer with gum disease some time ago,but my dentist says I have good dental health now) and the orthodontist says braces are not suitable, and he doesn’t think any kind of cosmetic treatment would be suitable either. I can’t believe there would be no solution for me. I have slightly crooked, overcrowded teeth (top only), and wondered if veneers would be an option.

I would like veneers on approx 8 of my front teeth

Tuesday, January 27th, 2009
Q.
I would like veneers on approx 8 of my front teeth but my dentist says because I grind my teeth, the wear and tear would be too severe and has advised me against the treatment. Is there any other treatment suitable in this case. Many thanks.
