The corner of one of my teeth has broken off should i have bonding or crown

Monday, June 22nd, 2009
Q.
Hi. Please can you advise me on whether I should have a crown or try bonding first… The corner of one of my teeth has broken off – it is on the bottom set, the second double tooth from back (I only have 4 double teeth each side). I had a lot of pain eating on it and my dentist presumed there was a crack but couldn’t find it, so replaced my filling in the hope it would help. Two weeks later part of it has fallen off. I have been given the option of having the corner rebuilt (with same material as used for fillings I think), but dentist cannot determine how strong this would be and whether it would last as these are my main chewing teeth. The price for that would be around £100, or he has suggested a porcelain crown at £500. (I would not consider the gold option as it would be visible). Obviously that is a lot of money which I don’t really want to spend. Would you advise me to try the bonding first or just go straight for the crown? with thanks

My whole left upper side of my teeth from the back to the canines hurts what could i do?

Saturday, June 20th, 2009
Q.
Hello im 16. I woke up this morning and one of my upper teeth hurt when i toached it with my tounge or closed my mouth and put my teeth together. It also hurt when ate food or swished water round my mouth. Later on i realised it wasnt just one of my tteth but the whole left upper side of my teeth from the back to the canines. I brush my teeth twice a day but i have not been using mouthwash for about a month. I wear a retainer brace at night and have been doing so for about 2-3 years. The pain is a sort of tingling pain when i touch the teeth with tounge or teeth or swish water round my mouth or eat. I have used mouth wash but it hasnt seemed to help. I’m really scared i might lose my teeth, please can you tell me what i could do at home to help? Thankyou.

I have pain in my lower front tooth after two root canal and apicetomy can you help?

Saturday, June 20th, 2009
Q.
Ive had problems with a lower front tooth now for years. Nearly a year ago I had a root canal on that tooth, it didnt work, had another root canal and it didnt work, the pain continued, Four weeks ago I had an apicetomy (by an expert in the field) and it hasnt worked the pain continues. When I took antibiotics post surgery the pain subsided. Do you have any ideas as to what it could be and what I should do next? I have been refered to a pain specialist but Im convinced the problem is dental. Can you help?

My lower molar became infected and i am hesitent to invest in endodontist what are my options

Friday, June 19th, 2009
Q.
I have had root canal treatment in a lower molar twice over the past 10 years. About a year ago it became infected and my dentist suggested that I try to save the tooth by going to an endodontist. I didn’t have the money for the treatment so didn’t follow go ahead with it. The infection/pain came back every month or so but I learnt that if I managed th pain with painkillers it would generally pass within a week or so. Now though, I am in pain every other week. I really need some advice on what to do. I am hesitent to invest in endodontist treatment when there is such a high risk that it won’t work (I’ve had root canal twice already and the year-long infection furthe rlowers thesuccess rate). I am thinking it would be more sensible to have the tooth removed but I dont know what the options are for replacement. A crown will weaken the adjacent teeth right? So are my only other options an implant or denture? Do you agree that my chances of root canal working now are lower? which type of tooth replacement would you suggest? If I were to find a NHS dentist, could they do any of this work? I take it that once the tooth is removed, all problems of infection in the root will also be resolved? I hope you can advise. Thanks

I had pain in my tooth but now im worried that the tooth was left open by dentist

Thursday, June 18th, 2009
Q.
Good day Sirs, On Wednesday evening I felt a mild toothache. In the morning on the next day my right chick started swelling a bit. I made an appointment to see a dentist on Friday. The doctor treated the tooth canals, said that there’s nothing bad about the tooth, no pus or any purulent substance just a slight inflammation. She left the tooth open and prescribed me to wash it with salt, soda and iodine water thoroughly throughout the day. The next appointment is on Monday. The pain is gone, but the chick is not getting smaller nor swelling any longer. I’m worried that the tooth was left open, could you please tell me if it’s ok? Thanks.

i had my root canal through the back of the crown and i am in pain after it would it settle down

Saturday, June 6th, 2009
Q.
I had a crown placed on my front tooth about 3 years. The tooth was fine but discoloured and the dentist (I now see a new dentist) who did it put a crown on after failing with two attempts at a veneer on that tooth. It has never felt right but as yet haven’t been able to afford to replace it.The gum is slightly raised above the crown and there is a thin ‘lip’ where the crown isn’t exactly against the gum. This has been checked by two dentists who say that the crown isn’t the best, but is fine and shouldn’t cause problems. About a month ago I had severe pain on that tooth and my dentist performed a root canal through the back of the crown. The nerve was apparently sclerosed and it was tricky to find it and get it all out. However, the dentist was confident that she got it all. I was still in pain after that and the dentist went in and cleaned it out again. I’ve had three courses of antibiotics which haven’t seemed to do much. Even though the pain is less, the tooth still hasn’t settled and feels sensitive to touch and throbs sometimes. the gum line at the top is also sore to the touch and causes a throbbing pain. The dentist(who is not my usual dentsit as she was away) says that she will clean it again if pain persists. She finished the root treatment a week ago. My usual dentist says she would have pulled the tooth already. As it is a front tooth, obviously i want to avoid this! The x-rays look fine. What could be going on with the tooth? Is it likely to settle at this stage?
