Q.
I had 3 teeth extracted today. I was prescribed Vibramycin. Do I really need this antibiotic? I had no pain before so I don’t think I had an infection. Is it dangerous for me to skip the meds?

Q.
I am 42 yrs old and i have not been to a dentist since i was about 13 or 14 yrs old . i had alot of fillings done at that age and now i think they are all starting to fall out . but a few days ago i was eating something and i felt something real hard in my mouth only to discover it was a part of my tooth and some filling . when i checked in my mouth there is 2 teeth that seem like they have no back to them ,just seeing filling. please tell me that i can have something done to fix this . i know i have waited along time without getting anything done but u all know seeing the dentist can be very expensive and not all people can afford this . but right now i am hoping and praying that my teeth can be saved no matter what the price . please let me know if this is normal or is there somehting more that may be happening . its just the 2 close teeth right now but i worry that its the start to all of the fillings falling out .

Ive been bulimic on and off and ive have lost enamel on my teeth is this caused by vomiting?

Friday, July 3rd, 2009
Q.
Hi I have been bulimic on and off for a few years now. I have a huge fear of dentists but went last week. I was worried the dentist would be able to tell that I’m bulimic but he didn’t say anything, so does that mean he probably couldn’t tell? Also, I don’t think I have lost enamel on my teeth but my top, front teeth appear ‘see through’ at the bottom and have really bad brown stains on the back of them. Is this caused by vomiting or is it just inproper dental hygiene? I wanted nto ask my dentist if I was doing any damage (as I also need several fillings and a root canal) but I was too embarrassed. Thanks for your help.

My teeth are weak is there any thing i can do to get good teeth with out having dentures?

Thursday, July 2nd, 2009
Q.
I was wondering if there was anything more permanent that veneers and something that covers the whole of the tooth. Basically my mouth is a mess, my teeth have always been weak my first filling was at the age of 5 on my milk teeth and every other time I went to the dentist I would always end up with a filling, I didn’t eat sweets or drink carbonated drinks until I was 15 due to allergies. Since the age of 17 I have only seen the dentist 3 times I am now 27 the last time was for extensive work but that was 2 years ago, and my teeth are weak and I know I’m going to need more fillings. Is their any thing I can do to get good teeth with out ripping the whole lot out and getting dentures? I am so self-conscious of it that I hate smiling and hate having my picture taken. Please help!!

I was getting pain on the left side of my mouth but there is nothing on the x-ray can u advice?

Thursday, July 2nd, 2009
Q.
I visited a dentist recently and explained to him that i was getting pain on the left side of my mouth which would start at the bottom and radiate upwards towards my temple area. I had been chewing on the left side of my mouth up until the pain started a week ago because i had crakced a tooth on the right hand side of my mouth. He told me that nothing was showing on the x-rays on the left hand side of my mouth but the tooth on the right hand side was cracked down the middle and needed removing which i have booked for next week. I asked him why i was getting pain on the left hand side of my mouth if nothing was showing on the x-rays. He told me that one of the reasons could be that i had been putting too much pressure on the teeth by constantly chewing on the left hand side and now they were causing pain, could this be a possibility?

Is there a technique that can be used to avoid tooth darkening after a root canal treatment

Tuesday, June 30th, 2009
Q.
Hi Dr Patel, I am hoping you may be able to give me some advice; I have recieved conflicting info so far and I’m unsure! Basically I have veneers to my upper teeth and unfortunately one of them now needs a root canal on it as it was damaged during the prep for the veneers and is very painful. My dentist says the rct can be done from the back of the tooth and not affect the veneer. However another dentist has told me that the tooth will likely go dark and show through the veneer, spoiling the look from the front. I am really worried about this. Is there a technique that can be used to avoid the tooth darkening after a root canal? And are you aware of similar cases where the veneers appearance has not been affected after the rct? Many thanks for any advice or info you can give
