Tuesday, April 21st, 2009
Q.
Hi, I am 16 and have 2 impacted teeth and 2 missing teeth. My mouth can only fit 2 teeth. In a result I’ll have 2 missing teeth and the gaps will be closed by braces. I was wondering if in later life I could have venners to make it look like I have all of my teeth there?

Would home filling of a chipped tooth is safer than a private dentist

Tuesday, April 21st, 2009
Q.
Hi, about 10 years ago, when i was about 11 years old,i fell in the shower and chipped my front teeth. At the time, the dentist filed down my teeth to straighten them out but, i guess, he couldnt straighten them completely because of the bite. So now, i am left with slighty wonky teeth, making a small upside V shape between the two. This really upsets me and hinders my confidence. I recently went to the dentist to ask for a cap or some extra filing but he said he couldnt as the cap would be too small whilst filing would be problematic for my bite. But to be honest, i’m not to bothered about my bite as i have an underbite anyway, i just want my teeth to be straight! Is there anything i could do? would private dentists do the job? or ive even read about home filing on the internet, is this really safe? Thankyou…

I am unhappy with my past root canal treatment should I pay my dentist or not

Tuesday, April 21st, 2009
Q.
A couple of years ago I went to a cosmetic dentist with whom I had 3 crowns done and root canal treatment on 2 teeth. The crowns were dreadful and stupidly I coughed up. When I had an appmnt. for one of the root canal treatments I was asked if Iminded another dentist doing it as the original dentist had gone to Germany on a course. The covering dentist had been shipped in from Manchester not only to cover for treatment but also to cover up the fact that his coun terpart was practicing whilst struck off. He tried far too long to find the root and it scared me of dentists to this day. I registered with NHS for routine checks after this. Just recently I approached another cosmetic dentist to re-do my crowns. After X Rays she said the root was damaged on tooth Mcr dentist did, but that she could extract it and bridge it to two crowns either side. She also said the other root canal was infected and needed treatment. This was going to be used in the bridge. I went for first appmnt and had panoramic x-ray and diagnostic wax-up. A couple of days later I went to my NHS dentist for routine check, explained to him what I was having done and he said that the teeth to be used in bridge weren’t very good and that I could be wasting my money as root canal could become infected again. As the cosmetic dentist had taken a large deposit off me I stopped the cheque and said I wasn’t going ahead but that I would pay for the appnmt I’d had. It was to be £350. I am peeved at having to pay this, and haven’t done yet. Shall I or shall I not. Sorry for the rambling but I’ve had it with dentists. I could even add to this. Please advise.

i have mercury filling and i would like to remove them is it possible?

Monday, April 20th, 2009
Q.
Hello, I have mercury fillings and would like to remove them, I was told that unless they are waring down and getting old I should not remove them, because the mercury released while removing the fillings is a much highter then the mercury being released from chewing. Is this true?

what is your opinion on my broken tooth filling

Thursday, April 16th, 2009
Q.
I have a lot of fillings and recently part of one broke off. Went to see my dentist thinking it would be re drilled but after poking it with his hook a big part of the filling popped out and he said because there is decay under the filling it needs to come out. But he covered it with temp filling and said when it starts hurting you we will extract the tooth. could it not be crowned. The tooth is at the bottom next to my wisdom tooth.

Is there any action I can take regarding my dissatisfaction with original treatment?

Thursday, April 9th, 2009
Q.
My white fillings in my two grinder teeth both cracked and fell out at roughly the same time and after a year or so i finally gathered enough funds to have them replaced as white fillings are only available privately. My dentist completed a refilling on one tooth but after a week the sensitivity was increasing not decreasing. Upon returning to the practice and advising the dentist of the issue an x-ray revealed that he’d drilled away at the tooth too much and used excess filling material which was pressing on my nerve irritating it and causing hypersensitivity. The dentist didn’t take any responsibility for this error and only offered a root canal as solution. In addition to this because i was not happy with the treatment offered and the first set of results, i still have not had the procedure on the 2nd grinder tooth. It has been roughly six months since the first procedure and in this time I have since visited 2 other dentists who have given 2 different sets of evaluations, advice, treatments and costs and I’m at a loss. The last dentist I visited irritated the tooth further and now i have constant numb pain in my mouth. I have had my confidence in dentists shattered but i feel like doing nothing will cause my dental health to suffer even more. Please advise if there is action i can take regarding my dissatisfaction with and the outcome of the original treatment and also the various options available to me for treatment. Please I am very anxious that time is not doing either the sensitive or untreated tooth any favours.

I am 15 yrs old is it possible to get a white filling at this age?

Wednesday, April 8th, 2009
Q.
Hi…im 15 years old and i have a small gap between my front 2 teeth about 1mm-2mm wide, the rest of my teeth are straight and healthy its only the gap in my front 2 teeth that is causing me problems and i am not comfortable when smiling because of it and its really getting to me even though everyone says its not that noticeable, also it has increased in size slightly in the past year…when i visited my orthodontist i was told that it was unlikely that my teeth will push together in the future and i was offered a top brace plus further retainers for a cost of £1000 (as it is not severe enough to be included on the nhs) and this is a very high price for a small gap…i was wondering if it would be possible to get a white filling inbetween my gap at this age? what would be the rough cost for a gap this size? does it look very effective and unnoticeable? thank you please reply back with your advice, i really want to get rid of my gap!!
