If I were to have my large teeth re-aligned would they have to be filed down too?

Wednesday, July 21st, 2010
Q.
My two front teeth are rather large and, due to sucking my thumb when i was a child, stick out slightly further than the rest of my teeth. My question is, if i had them re-aligned, would i also then need to get them filed down (if this is possible?) or would they just have to be removed from the start? Regards,
,

Would orthodontic surgery be able to fix my severe overbite?

Wednesday, April 7th, 2010
Q.
As a result of childhood thumbsucking, i have a severe overbite problem with my front teeth. Unfortunately, due to being so unhappy with my appearance i foolishly decided to neglect my teeth in the hope that the problem would go away to the extent they are now in a poor condition. I have belatedly realised i would like to address my dental problems. I appreciate that without an examination of my mouth you cannot provide me with a substantive answer but i would very much like to know if orthodontic treatment and surgery would be possible. Thank you for any assistance,

How much would it cost to have my teeth straightened, due to thumb sucking?

Friday, March 26th, 2010
Q.
Hi there, i don’t know if you can help but all my life i have been a thumbsucker. i recieved braces when i was 13 and quit sucking my thumb. After my brace i had a retainer for about a year, i was told i no longer needed to wear the retainer. my teeth began to return to their original state so i began to suck my thumb again as i was upset the brace didn’t work. Now at 17 i have quit my thumb again and it feels as though my teeth are moving around, and the gap between my teeth seems to be closing. what would be the best option to get my teeth looking straight and ‘perfect’ again and approximatly how much would it cost? sorry for the long story, any help would be appriciated.,

Will braces damage caps already in place?

Thursday, March 4th, 2010
Q.
I am 45. I sucked my thumb until I was 26! I also had a slight left side cross bite. I wore an upper plate brace when I was 11 but wasn’t given anything to keep the teeth in place, so over time they went back to how they were. When I was 30 I had my front teeth capped, as you could not see any of my upper teeth (and I mean any) when I smiled. My mouth was also sucken as you can image and I had deep lines. They brought two teeth over the bottom set of teeth to rectify the cross bite and lengthed the teeth so you could see them. I have a very long lip also so you cannot see my gums. Although the caps have improved my smile and support to my mouth area vastly, my upper set of teeth is still very narrow and the uncapped teeth go inwards, not giving me much support. I am considering braces, however I am frightened the caps which I can’t afford to replace will be damaged? Please note that I am told my teeth are very healthy, it is just that the upper set are displaced. I cannot tell you how trumatic my showing no teeth, while I was growing up has been for me, with people not liking me until they got to know me etc. Even the cutting down of my otherwise healthy teeth and having caps has been a huge truma for me, I’ve never really felt comfortable with the caps. Also can you recommend a good cosmetic/orthadentist. In central or west London. Thank you.,
